The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is just out of the gate, and Ford is already talking about its next electric truck. Unlike the Lightning, which is a conventional pickup truck with an electric powertrain, Ford’s new electric truck will have a more “radical” design, like some of the other electric pickup trucks we’re seeing coming out. Here’s what is known about the new Ford electric truck.

The new Ford electric truck will have a “radical” design

The new Ford electric truck is rumored to be coming but there aren’t a lot of details, according to InsideEvs. However, it is known that it will be built at Ford’s factory, the Blue Oval City Plant, which is in Tennessee. InsideEvs referenced some comments made by Ford CEO Jim Farley, which hinted at the electric truck that’s forthcoming.

So what will the new electric truck look like? It probably won’t resemble the pickup trucks that we’re used to. InsideEVs says, “the new pickup has been under development for quite some time now and will have a more radical, maybe even controversial design.”

How much will the next electric Ford truck cost?

Since Ford isn’t releasing much information, we don’t have a definitive price for the new electric truck. It’s likely though, that it will cost somewhere within a $7,000 range of the Ford F-150 Lightning. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning price starts at $39,974. This is for the Lightning Pro, which is the base model electric truck. It comes with a 2.4kW battery, can go 230 miles on a single charge, and has Ford’s suite of safety features known as Co-Pilot360. There’s also an extended range battery available, which can take the Lightning up to 300 miles on a single charge. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro also has a 12-inch touchscreen.

The new electric truck range should be better, too. It’s estimated that the new truck will have a range of up to 400 miles, which is 100 miles longer than the range on the Lightning. InsideEvs points out that this is on par with what is expected from the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.

The new electric truck will be a closer competitor to the Tesla Cybertruck

With the more unique styling of the new Ford electric truck, it’s likely that it will be a closer competitor to some of the more ‘out-there’ trucks like the Tesla Cybertruck. There’s a host of them coming our way: In addition to the Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T is another pickup truck with a modern vibe. There’s also the GMC Hummer truck, which has a more furturistic design than the Ford Lightning or Chevy Silverado EV.

One thing is certain about the new Ford electric truck; it’s just the beginng of an electric vehicle revolution. While conventional-looking EV pickups like the Ford Lightning will keep people feeling as though they can still relate to these new trucks, vehicles like the new Ford electric truck will likely usher in a new age of motor vehicles.
