The 2022 Lexus LX is all-new for the first time since 2008. That’s a long time for a Lexus SUV to go without being upgraded, but the 2022 version brings some significant changes. We see an all-new turbocharged V6 engine replacing the antiquated V8, a lighter build, and the next-generation infotainment system in this SUV. Let’s dive in and see what else we can find in this Lexus full-size luxury SUV.

Why do we love the Lexus LX among the luxury SUV models for 2022?

The LX is a traditional luxury full-size SUV with its hulking size and rugged capabilities. This brute has always been a Lexus that you could take out on the trails and know it would perform extremely well. The balance of the LX comes with a posh, refined, and smooth ride when it returns to the paved roads.

For 2022, the Lexus LX is built on the Toyota J300 platform, allowing this SUV to be the only model in the Toyota and Lexus lineup that uses the J-Series platform in the United States. The LX600 takes this impressive vehicle to the top of the list to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, BMW X7, Audi Q7, and Land Rover Range Rover.

Is the LX the same as the Land Cruiser?

Both SUVs use the same engine and share most of the same components, but they are not the same. With the introduction of the 2022 model year, the Toyota Land Cruiser left the American automotive world. This leaves the Lexus LX as the lone full-size SUV for 2022 from this brand family.

New power for this full-size Lexus SUV

The new Lexus LX is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine attached to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. This is an amazing improvement over the outgoing 5.7-liter V8 that served this SUV for the past 14 years.

The new powertrain offers 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. As expected, the LX comes with standard 4WD to make this one of the most capable Lexus SUV models in 2022. The fuel mileage is better than before, but only 17 city/22 hwy mpg for this SUV. If you want to tow a trailer with this new Lexus full-size luxury SUV, you’ll enjoy 8,000 pounds of towing capacity.

The outgoing touchpad-controlled system of the previous generation Lexus LX is gone. In its place is a new touchscreen-based system with a 12.3-inch main screen and a 7-inch supplemental screen. The larger touchscreen handles the connectivity duties with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the smaller screen is used for the HVAC and other in-cabin controls.

How much does the 2022 Lexus LX cost?

The new Lexus luxury full-size SUV starts at $88,245 for the base LX 600 model. Move up to the Premium trim, and you’ll pay $96,245, while the Luxury trim begins at $104,345. The top trim in this lineup is the Ultra-Luxury model, which comes at a price of $127,435. If you’re looking for a sportier version, the F Sport trim starts at $102,345.
