Police in Winslow Township, New Jersey, charged a 28-year-old man after a high-speed chase in the area. The car thief was trying to use a device to break into vehicles when officers attempted to apprehend the man. However, the New Jersey car thief refused to relent, leading to a dangerous, even violent chase.

A criminal in New Jersey ran from police and ‘attacked’ officers after getting caught trying to steal cars

28-year-old Tyrelle Clarke was reportedly using a “high-tech device” to break into vehicles on Hewitt Lane in Sicklerville, New Jersey. However, police weren’t far behind, responding to reports of three men breaking into parked cars. Troublingly, the reports made mention of a rifle in the mix. However, the car thieves clearly didn’t want a fight on the scene; Clarke fled in a black Infiniti Q50 with the authorities hot on his tail.

Clarke led the officers on a short high-speed chase on the Atlantic City Expressway, per NBC Philadelphia. The chase didn’t stay on the highway for long, though. Clarke left the highway, leading his pursuers back towards Sicklerville. He then stopped the Infiniti and attempted to flee on foot.

Police officers continued the chase on foot, following Clarke away from the stationary sedan. What’s more, the New Jersey man “attacked” pursuing officers during the chase. But his brazen escape attempt was for nought, and officers arrested him shortly after he hopped out of the vehicle.

Authorities say Clarke was using a device to break into cars. Unfortunately, this is commonplace for car thieves in 2025. Thieves use devices like the Flipper Zero to mimic a modern key fob like the ones you’d find in vehicles with push-button ignitions. It’s not just cars, either. These tools can reproduce remote garage door opener signals. And with attached garages, that could compromise the security of your home.

In this case, Clarke was using a handheld computer programmer to break into parked cars and generate a key to start the vehicle. Still, even with modern technology, Clarke wasn’t able to pull off his daring theft.
