General Motors has been making a few unique vehicles with its joint-venture brand, Wuling Motors. One of the new GM trucks includes the Zhengtu, which is a compact option. However, this GM truck isn’t the compact option we want. 

The new GM truck is compact and cheap 

Don’t get jealous about the new GM truck. The GM compact truck isn’t available in the United States, but that’s fine. It isn’t the compact option that Americans want. The General Motors Zhengtu compact crew truck fills a pretty niche market.

According to The Drive, the GM Zhengtu is a compact truck with seating for five and a 6.5-foot bed. It has sides that fold down like a tailgate to create a large platform bed. We know that is a pretty cool feature. The sides also open at a full 180-degree angle for easy access to the bed. 

Here’s where it gets even more enticing. The new GM truck costs about $9,035. It provides an incredibly cheap option for those who need a truck! If it passed the emission standards or didn’t have to fax the Chicken Tax, then we might want it. 

Problems with the Zhengtu 

Alright, here’s why we don’t want this new GM truck. It only has a 1.5-liter gas engine that provides 99 hp and an undisclosed amount of torque. So, don’t expect this truck to carry heavy payloads or to be good for towing. 

The engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission, and this General Motors truck may struggle to get up to highway speeds. But on a positive note, it should get up to an EPA estimated 33 mpg.

We aren’t sure if this truck will be offered with 4×4 or AWD. It could only be offered in front-wheel drive. It’s a few inches taller than the Chevy Colorado, but it’s a foot shorter and narrower. Also, the bed is about five inches longer and two inches wider than the Colorado’s bed. 

It’s a pickup designed for young drivers. It’s a starter truck with a real chrome-plated grille, an eight-inch infotainment center screen with voice commands, and a subpar interior. It meets the same noise, vibration, and harshness standards as passenger cars. 

What’s new with the 2021 Chevy Colorado? 

So, we don’t have the new GM truck, but that’s fine. You might be able to get an ATV that goes faster. Also, while General Motors doesn’t have a compact option in America, you can consider the Chevy Colorado. 

The 2021 Chevy Colorado begins around $25,200, so that’s pretty economical compared to full-sized options. When properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,000 lb, which is more than enough power.

For 2021, the Colorado got a slightly revised front end and new rear-end styling to be more aggressive and confident looking. The interior gained an automatic dimming rearview mirror and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Bluetooth audio software can stream up to two devices at once. Also, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. 

If you go for the Z71 Colorado, you get a rear black bow tie, CHEVROLET lettered grille, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, accent lighting, of-rod rocker protection, a front skid plate, and a mid skid plate.
