Chevrolet announced the newest Silverado pickup truck this week. So far, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD has been improved from bumper to bumper. What’s new about the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck? Just about all of it.

Chevrolet says the 2024 Silverado HD has more power, a better interior, and more innovative technology to keep drivers safe. The “legendary Duramax” 6.6L turbo-diesel is also back and better than ever. For both the gasoline and Duramax engines, both will get the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.

The automaker says it will not compromise capability and comfort with the 2024 Silverado HD, bringing it into the modern era. Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, says, “We’ve designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ favored choice for true truck capability.”

“The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of the design, strength and confidence that makes tackling the hard jobs, including trailering, easier and more convenient than ever.”

Buyers can choose from the 2500HD and 3500HD models, along with Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab. It also offers dual-rear wheels for the 3500HD to support the truck’s 36,000-pound trailering capacity.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD will be smoother than ever

The Allison 10-speed transmission is not standard for the 6.6L V-8 gas engine and the available Duramax turbo-diesel. It will replace the previous six-speed automatic transmission, making for smoother driving overall.

Chevrolet says the new transmission will help “translate to a more confident feeling of on-demand power.” Even if the driver isn’t towing, it should be a noticeable improvement in torque and power. Previously, the maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating was 24,000 pounds, now up to 26,000 pounds.

That new 2024 Chevy Silverado HD transmission will work well with the improved Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8 engine. Horsepower increases to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque (per SAE J1349, Chevy says). Other upgrades include more efficient combustion and overall improved performance. The low-end torque production is enhanced “by up to 25% for improved performance at low speeds or climbing grades, and particularly when trailering.”

More on those heavy-duty towing improvements

Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer is brand-new tech that helps account for added drag and braking distances while towing a trailer. Enhanced Transparent Trailer now works with additional options like a fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer. Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert helps expand the blind-zone areas to ensure nothing is hiding out of view. GCW Alert can now tell drivers if the weight exceeds the truck’s Gross Combined Weight Rating.

Buyers can customize the truck in new ways, including six new exterior color choices. The names of the new paint options are Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, and Auburn Metallic. Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Meteorite Metallic will be available later on. A new front fascia and design also improve the truck. Upgraded headlights offer dual functions, one of which is a light show welcoming drivers back when the vehicle is unlocked.

If you think you want to order the new 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, get in touch with your local dealership. It seems the easiest way to get a vehicle at MSRP is to order it directly from the manufacturer. If not, check out some of the best used Chevy Silverado years in recent history.
