Today we have a battle of the compact Jeeps. Take a look at the Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass to determine which of these little SUVs is the better option. We’re going to evaluate price, power, tech, safety, and more.
The Jeep Renegade VS. The Jeep Compass
The 2020 Jeep Renegade begins around $22k, and the highest trim option is about $28k, so it’s a decent deal to upgrade to the beefiest option.
The 2020 Jeep Compass also starts around $22k, but it’s highest trim option sells for about $30k. So it’s about $2k extra for all the bells and whistles with the Compass instead of the Renegade.
The Renegade and Compass have about the same fuel efficiency. The Renegade gets up to 24 mpg in the city while the Compass only gets up to 24 mpg. Also, they both get up to 32 mpg on the highway.
Jeep Renegade VS Jeep Compass Power
The Jeep Renegade has two engine options. The 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine pumps out 177 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. So go with the turbo for more power and pep.
But there isn’t too much pep. The Jeep Renegade takes 9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Also, the Jeep Renegade can tow up to 2,000 lb.
The Jeep Compass only has the 2.4-liter engine with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. It can also only tow up to 1,000 lb.
With the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 10 seconds, the Jeep Compass is slightly slower than the Renegade.
When it comes to off-roading features, the Jeep Renegade blows the Jeep Compass away with an active 4×4 system vs. only a low active 4×4 system.
The Renegade also has a 21:1 to crawl ratio, a Selec-Terrain management system, a beefier suspension and axle articulation, and skid plates to protect the undercarriage.
Jeep Renegade And Jeep Compass Features
The Jeep Renegade is a bit roomier than the Jeep Compass, making it more comfortable for taller people and passengers. However, the Jeep Compass has more interior space for your luggage and more substantial items.
Both of these Jeeps have the same Uconnect infotainment center. It’s a touch screen and can connect to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Alexa, and Google Assistant.
Also, both the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade are pretty safe. They have forward collision prevention, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. They also both have steel frames; only the Renegade has a rigid body for a little more protection.
The Jeep Renegade has more parking assistance features for parallel and perpendicular parking. Plus, the Jeep Renegade is equipped with a Roadside Assistance button at the top of the cab. Simply press it to call for help instantly.
So, the clear winner is the Jeep Renegade. It gives you more bang for your buck with a slightly lower price, much more off-roading capability, enhanced safety, and more comfort for drivers and passengers.
Only go with the Jeep Compass if you do not need to go off-roading and can live without extra safety features.
