We’re calling on one classic Jeep Cherokee edition to make a comeback. We feel like a new Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Edition could add some spice to the lineup. The Cherokee could use something to put it back on the table.

What is the Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Edition?

Back in the 1970s, there were some pretty cool, unique models, like the Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Levi’s Edition. The Golden Eagle Edition is pretty rare because it was only made in 1978 and 1979.

The Golden Eagle Edition was an appearance package that set Jeep Cherokee models apart from the rest of the lineup with a massive eagle on the hood. Its wings stretch around the sides of the Cherokee to the tailgate.

Stripes on the side of the Cherokee include ‘Golden Eagle’ on the sides. The interior features vinyl seats that accent the shades of brown, tan, gold, and orange on the exterior.

A new model probably wouldn’t need to be co-branded with Levi’s, but we wouldn’t oppose the partnership if it added more flare to the current Cherokee.

How much power does the Golden Eagle Cherokee have?

We are looking for the official figures of the Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Edition. It was powered by the 360-cubic-inch (5.9-liter) V8 engine. It may crank out about 175 hp, which isn’t bad.

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee has a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. With the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, you get 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to the 3.2-liter V6 engine for 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque.

The Jeep Cherokee can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.6 seconds, which is fine. But the new Golden Eagle Edition would need to be a little faster. Also, the nine-speed automatic transmission is a little sluggish.

When properly equipped, the Cherokee can tow up to 4,500 lbs, which is about average. The Cherokee Golden Eagle would be more attractive with a little extra muscle.

While we daydream about a new Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Edition, we can see what updates the actual Cherokee has. There aren’t many updates, but the 8.4-inch touchscreen is standard.

The new Jeep Cherokee X trim adds all-terrain tires, wheel arch extensions, an off-road-tuned suspension, and a rear tow hook to the base model.

It’s possible that the 2023 model could feature a host of changes, including a new hybrid engine and the 4xe model. However, Jeep hasn’t released any official information yet.

But you don’t have to wait for the potential new Eagle Edition to arrive. One model is heading to auction. You can head to Mecum Auctions to bid on a 1978 Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle Levi’s Edition on May 21.

The Jeep Cherokee hasn’t received as much love as other models across the lineup. We hope it’s not in trouble and will watch for updates. Hopefully, it comes back with a bang and attractive new styles such as a new Eagle Edition.
