16-year-old NC driver is dead after speeding, running from a traffic stop, and not wearing a seat belt
Trying to evade a traffic stop is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do. Not only can drivers cause harm to themselves, but this act can also prove destructive for others on the road. This is apparent in a tragic story coming out of North Carolina, where a young driver lost their life and injured a passenger while running from the police.
Trying to get away from a traffic stop can have tragic consequences
According to ABC 11, tragedy struck Johnston County, North Carolina, on the night of November 29th. The report says that the North Carolina State Highway Patrol tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 for speeding. Sadly, the driver, who was 16, refused to stop for the trooper and instead led them on a chase. The police officer was able to keep up with the 300 for a while but then lost sight.
Of course, the police officer continued trying to make the traffic stop. However, after finding the vehicle, they saw that it had not only crossed a center line but the car had hit a tree. Unfortunately, the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, died on the scene. Regarding the passenger, the person sustained minor injuries. The report doesn’t say if the passenger received treatment on the scene or at a hospital.
Of course, no one wants to be subjected to a traffic stop, which can be especially scary for a 16-year-old. However, being pulled over by the police for speeding has much fewer consequences than losing your life in a car accident. Additionally, wearing a seat belt is a lifesaving choice for everyone driving or riding in a vehicle.
