It can be easy to ignore a 1998 Jeep Wrangler model. The SUV could have way too many miles on the odometer and it’s about 26 years old. But one dealer has an old TJ available with a surprising amount of power under the hood.

Dealer offers a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with surprising power

For decades, enthusiasts wanted the Jeep Wrangler to gain V8 power. The Jeep Rubicon 392 temporarily answered the call with a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI. It cranks out 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

However, for most people, this rig doesn’t cut it because it starts at $91,545. Plus, it’s being discontinued, so drivers are running out of time to buy one.

One dealership has a solution, though. Some Wranglers with V8 engines might be hiding right under your nose at a cheaper price.

For example, Garage Kept Motors found a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with a 6.2-liter LS V8 under the hood. It cracks out 430 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque.

Other upgrades include an upgraded Ford 8.8 rear-end drivetrain with 4.10 gears. It’s paired with a 4L60E automatic transmission and rides on 35-inch Mickey Thompson Tires wrapped around new Ultra Motorsports wheels.

The two-door exterior offers a lifted stance, white paint, a white hardtop, and grey graphics. It pairs well with the black interior and has modern features such as LED headlights.

Only 115,220 miles are on the odometer, but has only been driven 200 miles since it was fully restored. This rig does cost $37,900. However, that’s about $53,645 less than the Rubicon 392.

It’s designed for tackling stout off-roading changes and to cruise with confidence for comfort on the pavement. The build is designed with meticulous attention to detail that ensures form and function.

Plus, the TJ is a classic model that was only built between 1996 and 2006. The Rubicon 392 is a JL model, which launched in 2018. It’s also only available with four doors.
