A luxury performance car heist failed after a parking attendant shut the garage door on a Range Rover when thieves tried to steal it from a Hell’s Kitchen garage in New York, damaging the vehicle significantly. One thief managed to steal a McLaren but soon crashed it into a nearby pole.
The scene was straight out of the movie Gone in 60 Seconds, given the list of exotic vehicles, including a G‑Wagon, that were about to be stolen. However, the thieves were nowhere near as talented as in the team in the movie, as they ended up fleeing in their own car.
According to a report by Fox 5 New York, the incident occurred at around 5:45 a.m. at a Hell’s Kitchen garage on West 43rd Street near the West Side Highway. The thieves set to work immediately on arrival, attempting to steal a blue McLaren sports car and a black Mercedes‑Benz G‑Wagon.
The police stated that when a suspect fled with the McLaren, he crashed into a nearby pole. Meanwhile, back at the garage, a clever parking attendant shut the security gate to prevent the thieves from escaping with the cars. However, the gate shut just as a white Range Rover was being stolen, crushing the car.

While the SUV ended up being damaged, the half-closed gate prevented it from being driven away. The police reported that a Volvo was also damaged extensively. In the end, the thieves were forced to flee empty-handed.
The police confirmed that the suspects escaped in a gray BMW. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and now, the police are reviewing footage from security cameras and collecting relevant evidence that can lead them to the suspects.
Eyewitnesses and anyone with more information about the suspects have been urged to contact the New York Police Department.
With car theft currently a popular topic, MotorBiscuit reported another incident from New Jersey where the Mantua Police Department busted a multi-car theft attempt around Lestershire Drive, chasing down the suspects who attempted to escape in two separate vehicles.
However, the police called off the dangerous pursuit after a Kia that was being chased rolled over after jumping the railroad tracks at high speed. Following the incident, the police urged residents to lock their vehicles and not to store valuables in them.
