The midsize truck segment saw a slight drop in sales in 2022. Across the board, sales were down 4.4%, but some models saw a jump in sales. That includes the GMC Canyon. Sales data shows more than 15% growth for GMC’s midsize pickup. The 2023 GMC Canyon pickup truck is fully redesigned for the third generation of the midsize pickup. Here’s how much a fully loaded version of the Canyon costs.

How much is the new GMC Canyon pickup truck?

According to The Fast Lane Truck, here are four trim options for the 2023 GMC Canyon: the base Elevation, AT4, Denali, and the new-for-2023 AT4X. Each comes with the same turbocharged 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine under the hood of the Chevrolet Colorado. The GMC Canyon uses the high-output version generating 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Elevation trim is the only one that comes with standard rear-wheel drive (RWD). The others all come with standard four-wheel drive (4WD). 

The new AT4X trim is made explicitly for off-roading. It’s similar to the Colorado ZR2 and looks to challenge the likes of the Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger. GMC says it uses upgraded suspension, dampers, heavy-duty skid-plating, rocker protectors, and gets a 3-inch lift to set it apart from the rest of the Canyon lineup.

The Elevation RWD model starts at $38,095. Upgrading to 4WD bumps the MSRP up to $41,395. The AT4 trim starts at $45,395, the Denali’s MSRP is $52,495, and the AT4X tops out at $56,995.  

2023 GMC Canyon options and packages

The base Elevation trim comes with lots of features. Off-road suspension and a 2-inch lift compared to the prior generation are included. Inside, the redesigned interior sees plenty of new pieces. An 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard across all trims. The new camera views, including an underbody front and rear camera on the AT4X, can be seen on that upgraded display. Higher trims like the Denali and AT4X come with comfortable, high-quality leather upholstery with specific color schemes. Unfortunately, there is about an inch less legroom for rear passengers, according to Edmunds.

For the Elevation trim, you can get the GMC Canyon Safety Plus Package. That adds safety features like rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The Technology Package goes further and adds a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control, per Autotrader. The Convenience Package provides amenities like a 120-volt outlet in the bed and the cabin, remote start, an EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, and an auto-dimming mirror.

Bumping up to the AT4 gives you more standard features like an automatic locking rear differential, advanced hill descent control, recovery hooks, and a tailgate storage system. The Premium Package ups the luxury with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, and what’s included in the Safety Plus Package. The Technology Package becomes the Technology Plus Package for the AT4 with a Bose audio system, head-up display, and underbody cameras.

The Denali trim gets a lot of standard safety features and luxury options included in the packages for lower trims. The Black Edition package adds 20-inch black aluminum wheels, black chrome exhaust tips, black running boards, and black badging.

The AT4X focuses on off-road performance but offers an upgrade as well with the Edition 1 Package. That gives you an off-road front bumper with a safari bar, front and rear underbody cameras, a ComeUp winch, and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels. With the Edition 1 Package and all extra amenities equipped, the AT4X goes up to $69,753, according to GMC.

Is a fully loaded Canyon pickup truck worth it?

That fully loaded price tag for the top trim, the AT4X, is pretty steep for a midsize truck. In comparison, GMC’s full-size truck, the Sierra 1500, starts at $43,895. For the price tag of a fully loaded GMC Canyon, you can get the AT4 trim with lots of standard features, more room, and an increased towing capacity. However, it is a good option if you want to maximize your midsize truck, especially for off-roading purposes. Competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger are worth a look, but they likely won’t have the same off-roading prowess that the Canyon offers.
