The Toyota GR86 is an affordable sports car model from Toyota that’s much less expensive than the GR Supra. The new 2022 model has received a larger engine from last year’s GR86 version, and both the interior and exterior have gotten some pretty impressive upgrades.

Sportier seats, a larger touchscreen, and updated styling make the Toyota GR86 a contender for best-in-class status and worth checking out. There are two trim levels options with limited add-ons and accessories, keeping the peppy sports car at a reasonable price point. So, how much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost fully loaded?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is the second generation of the two-door sports coupe. Developed in conjunction with the Subaru BRZ, Car and Driver refers to the vehicles as “the automotive equivalent of identical twins separated at birth.”

Powered by a four-cylinder engine paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission, the 2022 GR86 has a strengthened chassis and exudes better power and torque. With increased horsepower compared to last year’s model (23 hp more), the 2022 Toyota sports car’s 2.4-liter boxer engine generates an impressive 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. With an estimated MPG of 20/27, the GR86 can hit 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

According to the Toyota website, the 2022 Toyota GR86 baseline price is $27,700 (plus $1,010 for destination fees) when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Switching to the six-speed automatic transmission variant adds $1,500 to the total cost.

Standard features include a digital gauge cluster with LCD multi-information display, multi-link rear suspension, sport front bucket seats, and an audio system with an 8-inch touchscreen that is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible.

The 2022 Toyota GR86 Premium trim has a starting MSRP of $30,300 for the manual transmission option and $31,800 when equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission. Standard features abound with 18-inch matte black alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, a color-key duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive LED lights, and two-stage heated sport seats with leather-trimmed bolsters and suede inserts.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 Premium trim level worth the upgrade?

Absolutely. AutoTrader claims, “The Premium trim adds some excellent features to the GR86 without too much of an increase. It’s a worthwhile upgrade if you have the extra room in your budget.” If you don’t want to spend the additional money, no worries, “the base model delivers a pure and satisfying sports car experience.”

The two-tone interior offers premium materials with leather on the parking brake, shifter, and seats. Heated front seats, 8-speaker audio, and aluminum pedals round out the package nicely. The Active Safety Suite advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control are standard in both models. The Premium trim also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is a great choice, no matter which trim level you choose. Expect to pay around $35,024 for a fully loaded cherry red 2022 Toyota GR86 Premium trim model with an automatic transmission and all available accessories and add-ons. The price includes delivery and destination fees, making the new GR86 one of the most affordable sports cars on the market.

Available add-ons and accessories for the GR86

Exterior colors on the 2022 GR86 Premium trim level include Raven, Steel, Neptune, and Trueno. A silverish Halo and Track BRED color are available for an additional $425.

According to the Toyota configurator tool, the add-ons and available accessories are limited. Interior accessories include several all-weather floor mats that range from $199 to $399. A phone cable package is available for $73, and a Toyoguard Platinum protection plan has a $699 surcharge. Exterior add-ons include clear paint protection packages for the door and hood that range from $199 to $618.

The extras in the 2022 Toyota GR86 are minimal, keeping costs down for drivers looking for an affordable all-exclusive sportscar driving experience.
