Redesigned for the 2022 model year, the Hyundai Kona is available as the Kona, the Kona Electric, and the new Kona N. The Kona N high-performance SUV is the sporty performance version of the regular Kona compact SUV. The 2022 Kona has a starting price of $21,300, the 2022 Kona Electric starts at $34,000, and the 2022 Kona N starts at $34,200. With extras added, here’s a look at how much a fully loaded 2022 Hyundai Kona N costs.

Standard features of the 2022 Hyundai Kona N

Hyundai uses the N and N Line badges to designate its performance vehicles. The letter N comes from Namyang, the research and development center where Hyundai’s high-performance cars are created, and Nürburgring, the track where the vehicles are tested and perfected. The Kona N is the first Hyundai SUV to come with an N badge.

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N comes with standard 19-inch alloy wheels, Pirelli P-Zero Performance Tires, 14.2-inch front rotors, and an electronically controlled suspension. It sports dual large-bore exhaust tips, and drivers can select their preferred exhaust character. The Hyundai Kona N comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged DGI four-cylinder engine that generates 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, which includes paddle shifters as well as rev-matching.

The Kona N also provides drivers with several options for performance controls. Intended for use only on a closed track, Launch Control provides the fastest possible start by controlling engine torque and the clutch. The driver can create a custom drive mode by adjusting the engine, suspension, eLSD, rev-matching, steering, and exhaust sound. A red NGS button (for N Grin Control System) boosts the horsepower and downshifts the transmission to provide 20 seconds of maximum acceleration.

In addition to performance, the Kona N provides tech, safety, and comfort features. It comes with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and offers a custom drive mode menu, performance data, and a lap timer. It provides navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Behind the wheel, drivers will see a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that shares speed, oil temperature, and boost pressure. It has animations and color themes matched to each drive mode. Additionally, the Hyundai digital key works with an Android app to let drivers unlock and start the SUV with their phones.

The 2022 Kona N comes standard with a list of advanced safety features, including forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, rear occupant alert, and safe exit warning.

The exterior of the Kona N has been modified to give it a more aggressive look. The interior has N Sport leather and suede bucket seats, a Harmon/Kardon audio system, aluminum alloy sport gas and brake pedals, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

The 2022 Hyundai Kona has four trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited. Their starting prices range from $21,300 to $28,600. Despite its similar name, the 2022 Kona N is a different model, providing a bigger engine, more horsepower, and different interior and exterior designs and finishes. However, the Kona N only has one trim option, which starts at $34,200. However, additional features and options can increase the final price.

The Kona N extras and accessories

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N is fully loaded when buyers make a few customized selections. While Racing Red and Ultra Black are standard colors, Lunar White is an additional $400. There are also eight accessory options that can be added. A cargo net is $55. A cargo tray is $115. A first aid kit is $30. Or, to save $10, the cargo package, for $190, provides all three plus cargo blocks. Mudguards are $120. A rear bumper applique is $75. Roof rack cross rails are $250. Lastly, wheel locks are $65.

Altogether, these features and exterior paint add $1,110 to the base price. With an additional charge of $1,295 for freight, a fully loaded 2022 Hyundai Kona N costs roughly $36,595.
