When someone says “Aston Martin,” most people will only think of one thing, James Bond. However, after this story, another British superstar will come to mind, Mr. Bean. That’s right! Rowan Atkinson owns this one-of-a-kind Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato but has recently decided to sell. James can keep his little Aston Martin DB5; I’ll take the Zagato.
What makes Mr. Bean’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato so special?
According to Silodrome, this is likely the most powerful and fastest example of an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato in the world. This may sound dramatic, but it isn’t. After Mr. Bean (Sorry. I Can’t help it) bought it second-hand, he sent it to Aston Martin Works to turn it into a race car.
He took his six-figure, second-hand V8 Vantage and converted it into a full, race-spec car to compete in the AMOC C2 Class “Mildly Modified” category.
They started the conversion by ripping out the fancy factory interior to save weight. After that, the engine, brakes, and suspension were all rebuilt to be as efficient as the racing-class rules would allow. The engine now makes a ferocious 482 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. The rebuild even swapped out factory body panels and glass for lighter-weight materials, ultimately dropping 253 lbs. (Mr. Bean did not come here to play with you.)
Mr. Bean raced the car regularly for 10 years before selling it to its next owner, who is now offering it for sale through Dylan Miles. Rowan Atkinson’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato is now for sale again, but the new owner restored the interior to be more friendly as a daily driver.
How many cars does Rowan Atkinson have?
This insanely rare Aston Martin V8 Zagato is only one of a great many selections from Rowan Atkinson’s car collection. Atkinson, best known for his beloved but foolish character Mr. Bean, has an extensive car collection.
Unlike most famous, rich folks, Atkinson is a well-respected and highly credited racing driver. Don’t let the goofiness of his timeless character fool you; Atkinson keeps a low profile in his personal life but has been a serious car guy and avid racer for decades.
If you needed any further proof of Atkinson’s driving aptitude, look no further than his stunning appearance on the famed British car show, Top Gear. One of the bits from this show was bringing major celebrities to do a short interview with then host Jeremy Clarkson.
While often entertaining, the real reason the celebs came was to post a hot lap time around the Top Gear race track in a “reasonably priced car.” Rowan Atkinson posted the fastest time on the board during his appearance on the show over 10 years ago.
How much is an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato worth?
Considering normal ones can cruise well into the six figures, this one being the racing monster it is, paired with the Mr. Bean connection, I think the answer is, “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.”
