Get ready to rumble. Today I’m talking about battling SUVs. The most reliable SUV outranks the Ford Explorer, but not by much. Also, the Explorer has a surprisingly high score after years of struggling due to recalls.

What is the most reliable SUV for 2025?

Drum roll, please! The most reliable SUV for 2025 is the Chevrolet Traverse. According to U.S.News, the Traverse has a reliability score of 88 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is above average.

Scores between 70 to 80 are average, while anything between 81 and 90 is above average. Landing between 91 and 100 is best.

Also, the scores are based on owner feedback. Surveys are sent out to drivers after three years of ownership, allowing them to report any trouble they face from paint chipping, engine trouble, electronics failure, transmission problems, and more.

However, the second most reliable SUV is the 2025 Ford Explorer. It earned a score of 87 out of 100. It’s only one point behind the Traverse! However, it has a value score of 8.7 out of 10 compared to 8.2.

Both of these models are three-row options for families. However, the Chevy Traverse has more space in the third row. Plus, the Traverse has a sizable advantage related to cargo space. Plus, they can both tow up to 5,000 lbs.

The Explorer excels with intuitive tech, an athletic performance, and upscale cabin materials. While the Traverse might be more comfortable, it may lack a premium feel with sluggish steering.

Deciding between these rides may come down to test drives, but both are solid family haulers.
