Consumer Reports is a trustworthy source for rating many aspects of cars, including reliability. The organization gives predicted reliability ratings on a scale of one to five, with one for the lowest reliability and five for the highest. The reliability ratings are based on such things as the previous model year version of a car, similar cars in the brand’s lineup, and the brand’s reliability history.

Here are the Consumer Reports most reliable luxury SUVs for large families:

1. 2022 BMW X7: 3/5 predicted reliability
2. 2022 Lincoln Navigator: 3/5 predicted reliability
3. 2022 Lexus LX: 3/5 predicted reliability
4. 2022 Buick Enclave: 2/5 predicted reliability
5. 2022 Cadillac Escalade: 2/5 predicted reliability
6. 2022 Infiniti QX80: 2/5 predicted reliability
7. 2022 Jeep Wagoneer: 2/5 predicted reliability
8. 2022 Land Rover Range Rover: 2/5 predicted reliability

The 2022 BMW X7, 2022 Lincoln Navigator, and 2022 Lexus LX share the top spot for the Consumer Reports list of most reliable luxury SUVs for large families. However, it’s nothing to brag about, for the X7, Navigator, and LX have an “average” predicted reliability rating of 3/5.

No large luxury SUVs earned an “above average” rating of 4/5 or a “best” rating of 5/5. The relatively lower reliability ratings might be due to the fact that, like other luxury vehicles, large luxury SUVs are more complicated and have newer technologies, which are more prone to malfunction. The bigger powertrains of the large luxury SUV likely add to the problem as well.

For its overall vehicle ratings, Consumer Reports ranks the 2022 BMW X7 as the best large luxury SUV. The X7 is also the only large luxury SUV that the publication recommends. It did especially well for the Consumer Reports road test, with a score of 94/100. For predicted owner satisfaction, the X7 earned a score of 4/5.

In addition to receiving the same reliability rating as the X7, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator ranked second for the Consumer Reports list of best large luxury SUVs. Like the X7, the Navigator earned a predicted owner satisfaction score of 4/5. However, the Navigator earned a road test score of 65/100. While considered above average by Consumer Reports, this road test score for the Navigator is considerably lower than for the X7. As of this writing, the organization didn’t yet do a road test for the 2022 Lexus LX. However, it gave the LX a predicted owner satisfaction score of 4/5.
