The Toyota RAV4 is a perennial favorite. It’s usually the best-selling SUV in the United States. That’s why it’s kind of surprising that iSeeCars’ analysis of millions of vehicles’ ratings resulted in the RAV4 being ranked number six instead of number one. Let’s take a look at what’s keeping the 2022 Toyota RAV4 from cracking the top five Best Small and Compact SUVs for 2022.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 ratings are great

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 has a great overall score of 8.5 out of 10. Still, that isn’t enough to beat out the other SUVs at the top of the list. So what goes into the Toyota RAV4’s overall score? Well, it has a reliability rating of 8.0/10 from iSeeCars, a value retention score of 8.5, and a safety score of 9.0.

Those are all great scores, but they aren’t quite good enough to beat the top five SUVs. The number one spot goes to the Jeep Wrangler, with an overall score of 9.2. The Subaru Outback takes second place with an 8.8 and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has the same score at third place. Fourth place goes to the Subaru Forester with an 8.7 and the fifth spot belongs to the Honda CR-V with an 8.6.

The hybrid Toyota RAV4 Prime is another great option

The Toyota RAV4 Prime is totally worth considering if you’re in the market for a small SUV. It’s a solid hybrid SUV with an affordable price and excellent fuel economy. It uses a combination of battery and gas. The RAV4 Prime has a lithium-ion battery and is a plug-in hybrid, meaning you can charge the battery from an outside source, according to Kelley Blue Book. It can go up to 42 miles just on electricity, which is excellent for the small SUV class.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s MPGe rating for the 2022 RAV4 Prime is 94 miles. This is thanks to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder combustion engine and an electric motor powered b.y a lithium-ion battery. Together, this gives the Toyota RAV4 Prime 302 hp. Want to charge the XSE quickly? It can take just 2.5 hours to charge with a 6.6 kWh 240 volt battery. You can also use a 120-volt charger, but it will take up to 12 hours to charge.

How much does the RAV4 cost?

One of the best parts of the RAV3 is its affordable price. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 price starts at $26,525 for the base model 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE, which has a 203 hp four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, according to Edmunds. It also comes with front-wheel drive, though you can upgrade to all-wheel drive.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE comes with LED lights and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. It also adds a six-speaker sound system and is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As far as safety equipment, the 2022 RAV4 has forward collision warning and lane-keeping assist, as well as automatic high beams. It also comes with a traffic sign reader.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 may be an insanely popular SUV, but that doesn’t make its ratings any higher. If you’re in the market for a new compact SUV, the RAV4 is certainly worth considering – but you may also want to check out the SUVs in spots one through five.
