60 years ago, a Morris Mini Cooper crossed the International Tulip Rally finish line in first place. That Mini was driven by Pat Moss, with navigator Ann Riley sitting beside her. This victory would be Mini’s first international rally win, making legends out of both the car and driver.

Pat Moss will forever be remembered as one of the most successful female rally racers of all time. MINI has announced a new special edition of the Cooper S JCW that commemorates Moss and the Tulip Rally victory. Here are all the details about racer Pat Moss and the MINI Pat Moss Edition.

Who is Pat Moss?

Pat Moss was born in England in 1934. If her last name sounds familiar, that is because she is the sister of F1 and sports car legend Sir Stirling Moss. She didn’t need to rely on the family name or her brother’s fame; Pat Moss was an extremely talented rally driver in her own right.

Over the course of her career, which stretched 21 years, Moss managed to win three international rallies outright and finish on the podium seven times. She won the European Ladies’ Rally Championship five times, in 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964, and 1965.

Moss drove everything from a Triumph TR2 to the iconic Alpine A110 and was competitive in every car.

First revealed on International Women’s Day, the MINI Pat Moss Edition pays tribute to one of the brand’s most pioneering and successful racers.

The Moss Edition will be available as a 2023 model and only in the two-door JCW hardtop body for the U.S. Only 800 examples will be made, with 100 of those coming to America. The current JCW uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 228-horsepower. Expect the Moss Edition to be very close to this spec. The special edition is available with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic.

Two colors are available, a Midnight Black Metallic or Pepper White, both with red mirror caps. The hood gets a horizontal stripe with 3D lettering. That denotes the registration number of the Mini Moss used to win the Tulip Rally. Moss’s signature adorns the front bumper. And, the side panels carry information about the 1962 Tulip Rally, including the distance, route, and vehicle name.

The roof gets a slick tri-color paint scheme, and the interior features carbon black Dinamic/Leather with Pat Moss and Tulip insignia throughout. U.S. models will come standard with the panoramic sunroof.

These special edition cars will land in America in August of 2022. MINI will likely reveal pricing closer to the release date. As of today, the Pat Moss Edition is available for pre-order only

MINI has no shortage of special edition cars on sale. At the time of this writing, four other unique special editions are available. However, we think the Pat Moss Edition is the best of the bunch. It is a fitting tribute to a legendary rally racer that many may not know about. Here’s hoping that MINI keeps the special editions coming and that they continue to honor pioneers in motorsport.
