We aren’t dissing the 2022 Kia Sportage. It’s an excellent SUV to consider. However, the brand new 2023 Kia Sportage is right around the corner. So, the new model might be worth waiting for. Let’s see what to expect.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Kia Sportage is an excellent SUV. It has a refined luxury cabin, peppy acceleration, and sporty handling. It has an MSRP of $24,090, making it one of the more affordable options.

But it might feel a little old. The Kia Sportage was redesigned in 2017, making it five years old now. The bug-eyed styled headlights aren’t exactly in style anymore, but if you like them, go for it. Now the 2023 Sportage provides an all-new look and incredible updates.

What to expect with the 2023 Sportage

The new model will probably cost more than the 2022 Kia Sportage to cover the cost of extensive upgrades. We’re pretty pumped about the new look with angular running lights up the front and a larger Tiger Nose grille.

There are actually two new 2023 Kia Sportage models. Europe is getting one with a shorter wheelbase. In America, we will probably get the model with the longer wheelbase. This could provide more passenger room, cargo space, and a smoother ride.

We haven’t learned much about the powertrain options yet. The global Sportage has a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 177 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Kia has promised to offer a variety of powerful and efficient engines, though. We wouldn’t be surprised if hybrids enter the mix soon.

The 2022 Sportage has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine for 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s unclear if these engines will be carried over.

With the more powerful engine, the Sportage can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about eight seconds. This is a little slow for its class but provides plenty of power for passing others and merging on the highway.

When properly equipped, the Sportage can tow up to 2,000 lbs. It comes in front-wheel drive but is available with all-wheel drive. The Sportage may gain a little more power and off-roading upgrades.

Will the new Sportage have better features?

The 2023 Kia Sportage is expected to have a fresh interior similar to the Kia Carnival’s. It could include a massive screen with two displays that incorporate the driver gauges and infotainment system.

With the 2022 Kia Sportage, you get an 8.0-inch infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, wireless device charging and built-in navigation are missing.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.

We will learn more about the new Kia Sportage next week. It will make its debut on October 27. If you can’t wait to check it out, you can view the global options.
