While car commercials make plenty of midsize SUVs out to be as spacious as they are comfortable, Consumer Reports says that’s not always the case. Fortunately, these midsize SUVs are some of the roomiest and most comfortable in the segment. Let’s check them out. 

The 2021 Toyota Highlander is a midsize SUV with a comfortable interior

The 2021 Toyota Highlander is the kind of midsize SUV that aims to please in far more ways than one. But of all the things the 2021 Toyota Highlander has going for it? Consumer Reports says that its interior is among the most comfortable and spacious of them all.

In fact, slip behind the wheel of the 2021 Toyota Highlander, and you’ll be pleased to find that it offers no shortage of interior space. And while Consumer Reports says that its third-row is somewhat snug, odds are it’s kiddos that will be occupying those seats anyway. Consumer Reports added, “The front seats are comfortable for many body types, and the roomy second-row bench seat provides good support.”

This year’s Toyota Highlander offers plenty of cargo space too. According to Consumer Reports, the Highlander provides plenty of room behind the second row. Fold-down the Highlander’s third row for even more cargo space. This year’s model also provides a storage area under its cargo floor so you can easily store items out of sight. 

Don’t overlook the 2021 Lexus RX if you want a comfortable midsize SUV 

The 2021 Toyota Highlander isn’t the only midsized SUV that boasts a comfortable interior. Consumer Reports recommends taking a gander at the 2021 Lexus RX if you’re on the hunt for a spacious midsize SUV and aren’t sold on the Highlander. 

Not only does the 2021 Lexus RX offer a wealth of head, leg, and knee room for the driver, but according to Consumer Reports, its front seats are pretty supportive. Consumer Reports added that space is generous for second-row passengers. They’ll enjoy plenty of head, leg, and knee room, says Consumer Reports. After a long day, second-row passengers can even take advantage of the RX’s reclining seats to kick back and relax.

The 2021 Kia Sorento is a midsize SUV that values comfort and interior space

And if the 2021 Lexus RX is too expensive for you? Consider the affordably priced 2021 Kia Sorento. This year’s Sorento boasts three rows of seating, and according to Consumer Reports, comes standard with front seats that are both wide and supportive. For even comfier seating, Consumer Reports recommends opting for a Sorento EX or higher, all of which are available with second-row captain’s chairs. Unfortunately for third-row passengers, seating isn’t the most spacious in this midsize SUV.

Choose the 2021 Kia Telluride for a midsize SUV that’s as spacious as it is comfortable

There’s no beating around the bush here. The 2021 Kia Telluride has plenty to offer midsize SUV shoppers. It’s enjoyable to drive, comes stocked with thoughtful features, and has a wealth of interior space to offer. According to Consumer Reports, when it comes to the Kia Telluride, it’s an “extremely competent vehicle with few faults.”

That competence earned some pretty high ratings from Consumer Reports too. In fact, Consumer Reports gave this year’s Telluride a 97 overall score. This year’s model also earned a five out of five predicted reliability rating and a five out of five owner satisfaction rating. All in all, the Telluride is a near-flawless option if it’s a comfortable midsize SUV that you’re after.

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is a midsize SUV with plenty of interior space

Maybe the 2021 Hyundai Palisade is more your style. If it is, you’ll be pleased to know that Consumer Reports recognized it as having one of the roomiest and most comfortable interiors among the midsize SUV segment. Consumer Reports explained, “The three-row Palisade is an extremely functional family vehicle, distinguished by a no-nonsense powertrain and thoughtfully designed interior.”

Its comfortable interior provides no shortage of cargo space either. In fact, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade offers just as much cargo space as the 2021 Kia Telluride. Though, that shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. After all, the Telluride and the Palisade are very similar.

Pick the 2021 Subaru Outback if you need a spacious midsize SUV with all-wheel drive

If you don’t require a midsize SUV with three rows of seating, consider the 2021 Subaru Outback. Unlike other midsize SUVs on Consumer Reports’ list, this year’s Outback comes standard with all-wheel drive. It doesn’t make any compromises when it comes to interior space and comfort either.

According to Consumer Reports, this year’s Outback boasts nicely shaped seats that offer “good comfort and support.” Fortunately for second-row passengers, the rear seats are just as comfortable. Its cargo space is generous, too, added Consumer Reports.

Consumer Reports says you can’t go wrong with the 2021 Mazda CX-9

Last but certainly not least is the 2021 Mazda CX-9. Consumer Reports recognized this midsize SUV as having one of the roomiest and most comfortable interiors in the segment. As Consumer Reports explains, this year’s model is the “driver’s choice among the three-row family mover crowd, standing out for its agile handling, comfortable ride, and quiet interior.”
