Another Mercedes-Benz SUV is using electric power. Mercedes-Benz has updated one of its crossovers with fresh styling and a new hybrid system. The 2024 GLB now offers a new hybrid system and some lightly restyled looks.

The most substantial update for the 2024 GLB is under the hood. According to Car and Driver, the crossover keeps its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. However, the new model adds a 48-volt hybrid system. It’s a mild hybrid setup aimed at aiding with acceleration with an additional 13 horsepower. Per Car and Driver, it also allows the 2024 GLB to coast with its engine off.

Meanwhile, the 2024 AMG GLB35 keeps its same power output of 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Car and Driver that the visual updates to the 2024 GLB are minor. Mercedes-Benz has tweaked the front grille to differentiate the 2024 model from the previous model year. The brand also added new LED lighting. A new paint color option and new wheels round out the updates. It’s not a dramatic change to the hybrid GLB’s styling – but it’s enough to keep it fresh mid-cycle.

There are more notable changes inside the crossover’s cabin. In previous models, you’d have to upgrade to the Premium package to get the available 10.3-inch infotainment screen. Car and Driver reports that the feature is now standard. Standard MBUX infotainment technology works together with both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

What’s the difference between the Mercedes-Benz GLB and GLC?

The hybrid 2024 GLB splits the difference in size between the Mercedes-Benz GLA subcompact crossover and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. It’s a few inches shorter and narrower than the GLC. However, the GLB’s boxy proportions mean the crossover is slightly taller than the GLC. Its square proportions hint at inspiration from the flagship Mercedes-Benz G-Class (G Wagon) – though it’s much smaller and far less expensive.

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLB a luxury SUV?

It isn’t as glamorous as the G-Class or as spacious as the GLS, but the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB certainly is a luxury SUV

A single look at the GLB’s cabin shows its luxury credentials. Standard leather seating with rich colors balance brushed aluminum trim pieces. Handsome interior lighting runs throughout the cabin. It clearly picks up its design philosophy from other Mercedes-Benz models.

Rather than a brutish off-roader or a luxury land yacht, however, the GLB occupies a position as a practical hybrid daily driver. Its tall stature offers headroom aplenty while its rear cargo space has room for typical hauling chores.

How much is the new 2024 GLB?

Car and Driver reports that the new GLB will start at $40,950. Just like its size, GLB pricing sits between the GLA and GLC. However, moving up to the sporty AMG GLB35 bumps the starting price tag to $52,650 – a premium to pay for more horsepower and torque.

The 2024 GLB is the latest Mercedes-Benz model update announcement. As the brand continues to roll out its 2024 lineup, we are sure to see further evolutions of its luxury SUVs.
