[Watch] Mechanic influencer exposes the insane ways a client’s ex sabotages her car for revenge
Unfortunately, most of us know what it’s like to date someone who we initially thought was an amazing, trustworthy person who slowly but surely transformed into someone awful. Maybe they were dangerous, maybe they were controlling, or maybe they were outright abusive.
It’s a deflating experience, especially when that person, who you loved so much, turns out to be a person who goes through a lot of trouble to cause you harm.
That’s exactly what happened to a visitor of Menjicar’s repair shop. He’s a mechanic influencer on YouTube (@menjicar) who reveals common mechanic scams in the industry. This time, it wasn’t another mechanic who scammed his client who brought her Cadillac in for several issues.
“Apparently there’s some ex-boyfriend drama here,” he said, hopping into the driver’s seat. “He drove it for a while and gave it back, and after she started driving, a bunch of these warning lights came on… It says to service the transmission, the fuel is low, and much more.”
The dark, dark truth was revealed under the hood
Like any good mechanic would do, he whipped out the OBDII scanner to interpret the over 30 trouble codes the car was reporting. In addition to the dozens of lights, the car wouldn’t start or turn over.
“While driving she lost all power, no power steering, no brakes, nothing,” he said. However, he was stumped by the scanner’s results.
“[The scanner] didn’t pick up anything, and this thing usually picks up everything,” the mechanic said. So, under the hood he went. At first, he chalked it up to rodent damage when he noticed a handful of rodent footprints. However, a rodent can chew through wires, but it can’t intentionally disable important vehicle functions.
He noticed a connector on the engine was unplugged.
“I noticed this was unplugged, which means this was taken off,” the keen mechanic said. “I highly doubt a rat would do that.”
He found three more loose connectors that were intentionally removed and left hanging, but the last loose connector made him worry for his client’s safety.
Her mechanic revealed her ex-boyfriend was obviously trying to get revenge
“I looked at the brakes right here and we can see somebody literally disconnected the whole cable for the whole computer for the brakes,” he said, sliding and clicking the connector in place. “This controls all the brakes… The brakes were tampered with, so this could have ended really badly.”
After he plugged the brake control module back in, he was able to start the car and the scanner was able to pick up the codes, clear them, and fix her brakes. After telling his client what he discovered, she plans to involve authorities.
“At this point, the girl might even get the police involved for [the ex], because as I said, this could have ended really badly without brakes.”
