Sometimes people just need to vent about their jobs. So, it’s not surprising that a mechanic went on a rant. However, it was shocking to see that the rant was about Subaru engine problems. Every car in the shop had the same issue.
Expert mechanic complains about common Subaru engine problems
Trenton is an experienced mechanic at Teter Auto in North Aurora, Illinois. While the shop works on BMW, Mercedes, Chevrolet Camaro, and Corvette models he became frustrated because all the space was taken up by Subaru cars.
According to Torque News, 13 WRX and STI models were in the shop with the same Subaru engine problem. The cars were in the shop because of rod knocks that come from the engine’s connecting rod bearings.
It can be caused by a lack of lubrication or excessive wear. The connecting road may come into direct contact with the crankshaft. This leads to severe engine damage if not quickly corrected. Trenton claims all the cars in the shop were there because it was too late.
Trenton claimed that all of the engines were blown and went to different Subaru WRX and STI cars. One had no oil, one was there for an engine rebuild, another had no oil, and one came for a turbo build.
This Subaru engine problem is widely known. It may be caused by the engine’s design, oil system limitations, or driver habits.
The limited oil capacity combined with blow-by from turbocharge engines can lead to oil contamination and reduced oil film on bearings, leading to premature wear and spin. This results in the dreaded rod knock and engine failure.
