Experienced Mechanic Shares 3 Vehicles He Would Never Buy
Every driver has opinions about cars. Which ones are the best, which ones are the worst, and so on. But some motorists can back up their fiercely-held opinions with experience. After years of working to repair and maintain customer cars as well as his own, a Georgia mechanic shares which three cars he would never buy.
This tenured mechanic shared the three brands of vehicles he would never buy– with one caveat
Sherwood at Royalty Auto Service has a history with Lexus, Acura, and, more recently, a Mercedes-Benz. But there are a few cars he simply wouldn’t buy. Well, two car brands and one that he would consider– if things were a bit different.
“Hyundai. You know, there are just so many problems with these cars,” he said. “And, here’s the thing: why would I want to drive a Hyundai. They’re not really inexpensive. They might be two or three thousand dollars cheaper than their competitors… but they’re probably $20,000 cheaper in quality,” he added. Some strong opinions on that one.
“Kia. Same exact thing,” he continued. “It’s another Hyundai.” He’s not entirely wrong on that second point, too. Hyundai Motor Group runs Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. But given his vehement criticisms about Hyundai and Kia, you won’t likely find this experienced wrench behind the wheel of a Genesis.
“Jaguar Land Rover,” he said with a grimace. “The way I buy vehicles, I buy them and keep them for a long time. No, I wouldn’t buy one of those,” he added. But then he shared his caveat for Coventry cats.
“There are some really cool-looking Jaguars. Some really nice-looking Jaguars out there. And there are some really good-looking Land Rovers, too,” he gushed.
Therein lies the reality of when he could see himself in a Jaguar or Land Rover. “If I had tons of money and I didn’t care? Then I’d trade it in? Yeah, I’d drive a Jaguar Land Rover.” He does point out that a “cool factor” goes into his car-buying considerations. I mean, we get it.
His reservations are well-founded, too. Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, especially older models, have a reputation for issues like irritating, finicky electrical gremlins. And that’s not all, expensive labor and parts mean pricey fixes. For instance, Jaguar F-TYPE owners have taken to Reddit and forums to lament an $8,000 quote to replace faulty headlamps. Ouch.
