6 people are facing charges after a Maryland traffic stop uncovered 400 grams of heroin and cocaine
There are many reasons why a police officer could conduct a traffic stop on a driver. It could be because of various violations, but it could also be more of a preventative or routine measure. Recently, police in Maryland pulled over a vehicle and uncovered far more illegal drugs than they ever thought they would. Now, there are six people behind bars.
This traffic stop turned into much more than the police officers assumed it would
Being pulled over for a traffic stop is reasonably common. In fact, police conduct several of them daily for safety reasons. However, they don’t usually uncover hundreds of grams of illegal drugs. According to WFMD, this happened recently when Maryland police officers observed a Volkswagen minivan that had committed moving and equipment violations. Of course, they pulled over the vehicle due to the infractions.
Luckily, the driver complied with the traffic stop, and the police on the scene began talking to them. However, during the conversation, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, which gave them probable cause to search. This also means the driver and the occupants of the vehicle were detained while the officers looked through the minivan for illegal items.
Things worsened during the traffic stop for the people in the vehicle as the police officers found a motherload of drugs. They uncovered 264 grams of what is believed to be cocaine and 100 grams of suspected heroin. There was also a 45-caliber handgun in the vehicle. Now, the six people are behind bars.
