The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office attached 27-year-old Lionel Jones for allegedly stealing over 2,400 gallons of gas in Monroe County, Georgia.

Police officers started investigating once the Rumble Road gas station reported missing large quantities of gasoline. The store owner shared that 2,446 gallons were stolen.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the theft occurred while the station was closed. Investigators used the FLOCK camera system to identify a gray SUV and U-Haul truck that was allegedly involved.

Then a ‘Be On the Lookout’ or BOLO was issued for both vehicles. A few nights later, an officer spotted a U-Haul that matched the description and performed a traffic stop.

There was a strong odor of gasoline coming from the truck. Upon searching it, officers found two 250-gallon plastic tanks in the back. They contained small amounts of gas. Police officers also found marijuana.

There is still an ongoing investigation into the incident. The driver of the grey SUV is still at large, but might not have been involved. Jones might share the identity of the other suspect who was possibly involved during the questioning.

More information will be released as the investigation progresses. This grand-scale gasoline theft isn’t being taken lightly. Stay tuned for updates.
