While the legendary Florida man is usually full of surprises, sometimes they aren’t very smart. One man stole a car without taking a look at the fuel gauge. So, he was busted while trying to get gas instead of getting away.

Florida man busted with stolen car while buying gas

Police officers conveniently recovered a stolen car at a gas station. This is pretty different from the usual tales involving high-speed chases and fiery crashes.

Anyways, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) started tracking a stolen red car after getting an alert near 56th Street and Hanna Avenue.

The officers started playing a game of cat and mouse. They tracked the vehicle on %6th Street and Hillsborough Avenue.

According to CBS 12, the driver cut across multiple lanes while traveling southbound on Hillsborough Avenue to turn into a Shell gas station.

The suspect must have felt pretty confident to stop so close to where he stole the vehicle. It doesn’t seem like he knew he was being followed. However, police officers even had aerial footage of the sedan’s movement.

Then the vehicle parked near a fuel pump. The suspect identified as 45-year-old Robert Ritt exited the stolen car to enter the Shell store, but was arrested by police officers.

Ritt was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an occupied conveyance, petit theft of first degree, possession of burglary tools, and unlawful possession of a stolen credit or credit card.

The owner of the vehicle is extremely lucky that it wasn’t damaged. It was quickly recovered before it was wrecked, sold off, or parted out.
