Has Toyota finally hit the Tundra nail on the head with the Capstone trim? We’ve seen other truck brands bring us luxury versions of their half-ton trucks for years, but not Toyota. Finally, we have the Capstone trim, which is the top-shelf version of the Toyota Tundra we’ve always wanted. Is it time to sing from the rooftops about this truck? We think so.

The Capstone trim level signifies the first venture into the premium truck market for Toyota. The Tundra continually gets outsold and outclassed by the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra, but not any longer. This new trim of the Tundra allows Toyota buyers to enjoy a truck with excellent features and the items you expect from a truck that costs over $70,000.

How much does the Toyota Tundra Capstone cost?

We don’t need to talk about the lower trims of the Tundra at all. The Capstone model requires you to spend $73,530 just to get started. Some options will send this price a little higher, but that’s where you begin. Compared to the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and Ford F-150 Limited, this price is a bargain.

What are the specific features of the Capstone trim?

The Toyota Tundra comes in several trims, but the top model has some special features for a better driving experience. This trim offers:

  • Black and white leather interior style
  • Open-pore American walnut trim
  • Acoustic side door glass
  • 22-inch alloy wheels
  • Automatic running boards
  • Moonroof
  • 12-speaker JBL audio system
  • Digital rearview mirror
  • Towing Technology Package

Add the optional Advanced Package, and you’ll enjoy:

  • Load-leveling rear air suspension
  • Adaptive variable suspension
  • 10-inch head-up display

Of course, you’ll have many of the features offered in lower trims, but the items on this list are specific to this luxury-level truck.

The Toyota Tundra uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 engine with an electric motor-generator at the Capstone trim level. This setup pushes power through a ten-speed automatic transmission to give you smooth shifting and plenty of power on the road. This powertrain is good for 437 horsepower, 583 lb.-ft. of torque, and up to 20 city/24 hwy mpg. You can tow up to 10,340 pounds with this truck.

Comparatively, the Ford F-150 reaches 14,000 pounds of towing, and the Chevy Silverado 1500 tows up to 13,300 pounds.

Does the 2022 Tundra require premium gas?

No, you won’t need to use premium gas for the Toyota Tundra Capstone. This engine uses regular 87-octane fuel, making it one of the most affordable and efficient full-size trucks for you to drive. Of course, that affordability only refers to the fuel consumption, not the actual price of this truck.

Should you buy this truck?

If you’re willing to spend the money for a luxury truck, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone is an excellent choice. This truck is filled with luxurious items and gives you the power you need. If you want a more affordable model, the Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country and Ram 1500 Limited both come at lower prices. Of course, if you need more towing power, you’ll want to look at some of the other luxury trucks. That is one area where the Tundra does fall behind.
