2 people are dead after a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Baton Rouge, LA
The idea of high-speed chases has been glamorized by film and television, but they are massive intrusions on public safety. This is evident in a recent story out of Louisiana involving a man trying to evade a police traffic stop and then causing a deadly crash. Now, the police are investigating to see if the man had decided to drive while under the influence.
Not only is evading a traffic stop illegal, but it can also harm others
According to WAFB, officers with the St. Gabriel Police Department tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. This took place on the evening of March 12th, and the person behind the wheel happened to be speeding at the time. Like many, the driver refused to pull over for the police, which prompted a high-speed chase. The driver then continued speeding down LA 30.
The police on the scene continued trying to make the traffic stop on the Camaro. Sadly, things took a turn when the driver sped through an intersection as a 2016 GMC Sierra was attempting to make a left turn. After passing a red light, the Camaro collided head-on with the pickup truck. The Camaro driver, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, passed away at the hospital. The passenger, also not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene from serious injuries.
Following the attempted traffic stop and crash, the GMC driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. However, this person was wearing a seatbelt and survived the crash. It’s unknown if the man evading the police had decided to drive under the influence. The authorities plan to investigate the high-speed chase further.
