The holidays are usually a magical time for family and friends to come together. However, drivers also make crazy decisions during this time of year. Sadly, a recent story out of Louisiana involves a driver trying to evade a traffic stop and then getting several charges. 

Here’s what happened on Thanksgiving.

They tried to evade a traffic stop and ended up in handcuffs

Trying to run from a traffic stop is never a good idea. This is the case for everyone, including those with something to hide. According to KPLCTV, this happened on Thanksgiving night in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The report says that police officers tried to stop a vehicle, but the driver refused and continued driving. Of course, this caused a brief police chase. 

The Louisiana police officers continued to try to make the traffic stop but to no avail. Eventually, the driver and a passenger exited the vehicle and tried to get away on foot. However, they were soon apprehended. The two people, Dominique Lashau Trent, 27, and Mitchell Amor Francis, 25, were taken to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Facility. 

Following the traffic stop and arrest, Dominique is facing the following charges:

  • Resisting an officer
  • Production, manufacture, distribution, or possession of a Schedule II drug
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Contraband in a penal institution
  • Possession of a Schedule I drug

Mitchell has the following:

  • Resisting an officer
  • Possession of a Schedule II drug
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Various road violations
