Lost Tesla Driver Wanders onto Track, Goes the Wrong Way, During Motorcycle Race
There are a lot of reasons why a race could be red-flagged. Usually, it isn’t because someone drove their Tesla Model Y onto the track during the race.
That, however, is exactly what happened during the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) Open Supersport and Middleweight Supersport events last weekend. Making it somehow even worse is the fact that the driver took to the track in their Tesla going the wrong way.
Why the driver drove their Tesla onto at Buttonwillow Raceway Park track remains a mystery. As does how they were allowed to do so in the first place. Perhaps their GPS system told them to turn there?
The wandering Tesla caused the announcer to briefly lose his mind
“No way! We’re in a red flag situation for something on course that’s not supposed to be there. There’s a car on course! Somehow there is a car on the race course!,” the shocked announcer says on the broadcast.
“A car! A car! Someone has driven a car on the race course! Well, I’ve been watching motorcycle racing for 23 years, and I don’t know what I’m looking at right now.
“Other than, maybe, is that a Tesla driver?! I believe that is a Tesla driver trying to find the Tesla charging station.
“Well friends, you’re seeing it in real time with me. In a world of ‘What the f?’ I present to you, ‘What the F?’ This may be the biggest F I’ve ever whatted.”
A race marshal eventually flagged the car down. After he explained to them the dangerous situation they created, a UTV led the lost Tesla driver back to the pit area.
Thankfully, despite the event being interrupted, no one was hurt. In fairness, as Jalopnik pointed out, Buttonwillow does actually have a Tesla Supercharger facility at the north end of the track.
“I feel pretty confident this is going to make the banquet highlight reel,” said the announcer. He then added, “There has been a sideways comment that may have been made near me that Elon Musk is out to get us.”
