Los Angeles Gas Prices Are Soaring, but This Station is Still Under $5

A Los Angeles gas station has been experiencing a rush thanks to it offering a gallon of gas at a lower price than other gas stations. The ongoing military conflict with Iran and the war in the Middle East have led to an increase in fuel prices, but not at this gas station.

The average gas price in the county stood at $5.99/gallon on Monday, highlighting an increase of nearly $1.30 in just one month. However, the Sinclair gas station in East Hollywood, located off of Melrose and Normandy avenues near the 101 Freeway, is offering regular unleaded gas at $4.97 a gallon in cash, a dollar less than the average price.

KTLA 5 reported that the joint U.S. and Israel attack on Iran in February has shot up gas prices in just one month. Southern California’s average price per gallon has gone up by $1.25 in just four weeks. Notably, average prices outside California are under $4/gallon.

The Automobile Club revealed that a similar trend was witnessed back in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine, leading to gas prices exceeding the $6 per gallon mark. The record, however, stands at $6.49 per gallon.

Motorists have found respite in tough times thanks to the Sinclair gas station that offers the best price. A woman named Denisha Harrison said she fills enough there to make it last a week:

“It’s the cheaper gas. You want to fill up for gas and then we’ll make it work for the week.”

Another person, Carolina Delarenal, made the most of the prices at Sinclair before driving back to Corona. She said:

“In Corona, Riverside area, we’re like averaging 5, 5 and a quarter. So for $4.99 I’ll travel the extra miles.”

Roger Gallardo reported that the lowest gas price he came across in LA was $5.59 before filling at the Sinclair gas station. He said:

“My gas tank was flashing, I almost ran out, and I was like, $5.59 is the cheapest I’ve seen it in L.A. So I come over here all the time and, pretty soon, we ain’t going to be able to get gas no more here because everyone is gonna know.”

As a result of the rising fuel prices, motorists have resorted to different ways to save money. Norbert Reyes said:

“We don’t eat out anymore. We’re very stingy about our gas. We’re going to Costco a lot more, just to stock up and try to make due that way and stretch out our budget.”
