Electric Toyota SUVs will live up to Toyota’s reputation of reliability

The 2022 Toyota bZ4X will set the standard for Toyota’s new electric lineup. The bZ4X is just a taste of what’s to come for the Japanese automaker in the next few years as the company rolls out 15 unique battery electric vehicles(BEVs).

Toyota has championed alternatively-fuelled vehicles for decades. It was the first automaker to mass-produce a popular hybrid model. The Toyota Prius may have received a lot of hate over the years, but it played a huge role in the future success of the company.

Toyota has become an expert in hybrid technology since the debut of the Prius 20+ years ago. Today, the automaker offers several hybrid alternatives to popular models. The RAV4 Prime is a powerful example of the capability of modern hybrids.

The bZ4X is picking up where the Prius left off and ushering consumers into Toyota’s electric future. How long will the hybrid SUV last? According to InsideEVs, the bZ4X will take an entire decade to lose just 10% of its total battery capacity. This means the bZ4X’s battery pack will last at least 10 years before any serious degradation.

How long will the 2022 Toyota bZ4X last?

The 2022 Toyota bZ4X’s European model will get 450 kilometers of range. This equates to about 279 miles. If the American model gets 279 miles of range and its battery degrades 10% after 10 years (or 150,000 miles). This means after 10 years, the bZ4X could go from 279 miles of range to 251 miles of range.

Even after 10 years, the bZ4X will retain 90% of its battery capacity and be able to travel 251 miles on a full charge. Judging by this information, Toyota electric SUVs have the potential to last for decades if properly maintained without significant battery degradation.

Very few EVs have existed long enough to study how reliable they are over time, but if any electric SUV is going to stand the test of time, it’s the bZ4X. As for how long the bZ4X will actually last, we’ll just have to wait and see in the decades to come.

The Toyota RAV4 is currently the most popular SUV model in America. The 2022 Toyota bZ4X has yet to release, but thanks to Toyota’s reputation, it’s fair to say that it will be a competitive release rivaling the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.

Toyota SUVs are known for being affordable and reliable. Thanks to electric vehicle tax credits, the bZ4X should be reasonably affordable as well. Even if the bZ4X starts at around $40,000, EV tax credits have the potential to bring its price under $$33,000. If the new electric Toyota SUV can last for at least 13 years or 200,000 miles without needing repairs, it may be just as reliable as any other Toyota SUV.
