Toyota is getting the most use out of the Toyota bZ4X as possible. There’s already another electric SUV based on this model, and now the Lexus RZ will be based on it too. But the Lexus RZ electric SUV should provide a more luxurious feeling.
The Lexus RZ borrows from the Toyota bZ4X
First, we saw the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, and we were pretty impressed with its futuristic design. But we couldn’t help but notice how much it reminds us of the Toyota RAV4. Then two more electric SUVs followed in its tracks.
The 2023 Subaru Solterra looks almost exactly like the Toyota bZ4X. However, it has more black cladding to provide more of a rugged, off-roading look. While being similar in size to the bZ4X, it may offer a higher ground clearance.
Now the 2023 Lexus RZ is about to emerge. It’s also co-created with Toyota and is based on the bZ4X’s platform. So, the EV SUV world will have triplet SUVs. Will you go for the original bZ4X, the off-roading Solterra, or the luxurious RZ?
What to expect with the 2023 RZ
We’re still waiting to learn more about the Lexus RZ. We’ve only seen teaser images so far that confirm the Toyota bZ4X size, shape, and attitude. The Lexus NX is based on the Toyota RAV4, so there could be a similar game plan with the RZ and bZ4X.
Both vehicles could share the same powertrain. The bZ4X is powered by a dual-motor powertrain and a 64.-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The front-wheel drive models provide 2021 hp.
The all-wheel drive models are paired with a 66.0-kWh battery pack and pump out 215 hp. The AWD model is expected to reach 0 to 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds. This is average. We hope that the RZ gains a little extra power.
There isn’t an EPA-estimated range for the bZ4X yet. However, Toyota is aiming for a 250-mile range with the FWD models. This means that the AWD models could have a shorter range. With other SUVs, like the Mustang Mach-E reaching 300 miles of range, this isn’t exactly exciting.
You should be able to regain 8 percent of the battery charge in under an hour. This charging time is also average. But built-in solar panels replenish about 1,000 miles of range per year. But with drivers averaging 13,500 miles per year, that doesn’t help much.
Will the 2023 RZ have a nice interior?
The 2023 Lexus RZ is expected to build upon the Toyota bZ4X’s interior. But it should have higher quality features and more tech. The interior of the bZ4X looks futuristic with soft-touch materials with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
It’s possible that the RZ will add heated and ventilated seats, a dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charging pad, SiriusXM radio, and a premium sound system. We hope wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are included.
The 2023 RZ will probably feature leather-wrapped surfaces with a micro-sued headliner and wood accents for a more premium feeling. It may have better insulation for a quieter interior as well.
Pricing for the Toyota bZ4X is expected to start at around $35,000 or more. So, the Lexus RZ will probably cost more. We will keep you updated as we learn more about the trio of electric vehicles sharing the same shape and platform.
