As Toyota continues to explore the viability of electric vehicles, it is no surprise that its luxury brand is doing the same. Recently, Lexus debuted more information on the Lexus RZ 450e, which shares its platform with the Toyota bz4X. It is a full EV and is expected to offer more power than its Toyota variant. It will undoubtedly also offer more luxury and premium features. 

The RZ 450e will go on sale for the 2023 model year, and it will likely have a starting price of around $50,000. 

What is the Lexus RZ 450e?

The Lexus RZ 450e is an EV crossover that was first debuted towards the end of 2021. It will be sharing the e-TNGA platform along with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. But, since this is the Lexus model, it will be the more luxurious version.

With the RZ 450e, buyers will get something that is clearly a Lexus model. It does not share very many visual similarities to the Toyota. Which is something that will be appreciated by those shopping for a luxury EV crossover.

There has not been significant information on the interior of this vehicle or its power output. The Toyota is expected to offer 215 horsepower and 248 pound-foot of torque. So we can only imagine that Lexus will be giving its model more power. 

What is the range of the Lexus RZ 450e?

There is still plenty of secrecy surrounding the Lexus EV. The longest range offered by the bZ4X is said to be at 310 miles according to Auto Week. The RZ 450e will have plenty of competition. And when it comes to EVs, the range is one of the most important aspects.

The RZ 450e will face rivalry from the Tesla Model Y and other vehicles from German manufacturers. Ideally, this Lexus EV would offer around 250 miles of range, making it a practical option for different shoppers. Other manufacturers are currently offering more range on vehicles, so Toyota will need to catch up to reach a wider audience. Especially those who find themselves living in areas with winter weather. As cold can have a big impact on range.

When will the Lexus RZ 450e be released?

In December of 2021, Lexus announced that the RZ 450e would be coming to America. The current expectation is for this vehicle to arrive at some point in 2022 as a 2023 model. Lexus has only shown off pre-production models so far. This means that styling could change slightly. And, the interior has yet to be revealed. 

But as a Lexus model, it can be expected that the RZ 450e will follow a similar design language to other models. With some futuristic touches to show that this isn’t a crossover that needs a gasoline engine.

As more information is revealed about the RZ 450e, important information like range, pricing, and features will be confirmed. Which will allow buyers to determine if this Lexus EV may be something worth buying or leasing. For now, we are excited for a new contender to enter this segment.
