Least Reliable 2021 Ford Models According to Consumer Reports

Ford is one of the most globally recognized manufacturers around. Dating back to the birth of the American automobile, this company has put out a lot of reliable cars, trucks, and SUVs. But as with any other brand, there are models that aren’t as reliable as expected. These are the least reliable 2021 Ford models according to Consumer Reports.

For the 2021 model year, Consumer Reports rated several vehicles already. Of these, there are models such as the F-Series pickup truck and the 2021 Ford Edge that get decent or even good predicted reliability scores. However, there are a few models that received very low marks. Let’s take a look.

Several 2021 Ford model received low reliability scores

There are six 2021 Ford models that received a 2 out of 5 score for predicted reliability. Some of them are brand new models or first of a new generation. New models such as these often get low scores in terms of reliability. That said, not all of the low scoring models are brand new.

The 2021 Ford Ranger received a 2 out of 5 for predicted reliability. For overall reliability, Consumer Reports scored the 2021 Ford Ranger just 29 out of 100. Speaking of pickup trucks, Consumer Reports also gave this rating to the all-new 2021 Ford F-150. That said, this is the first model of a fresh generation. Low predicted reliability scores are common for new releases.

The 2021 Ford EcoSport is among the models that scored low even though it’s not a redesigned or brand new model. Consumer Reports scored the 2021 Ford EcoSport only 28 out of 100. In Addition, this compact crossover SUV earned just 1 out of 5 for predicted customer satisfaction. Three more brand new models––the 2021 Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E––also earned only 2 out of 5 for predicted reliability making them some of the least reliable 2021 Ford models according to Consumer Reports.

The two least reliable 2021 Ford models are also two of the most popular crossover SUVs. Scoring only 1 out of 5 for predicted reliability, these favorites are at the bottom of the barrel. The 2021 Ford Escape and the 2021 Ford Explorer are the least reliable 2021 Ford models according to Consumer Reports.

The 2021 Ford Escape earned only 10 out of 100 for overall reliability. It’s a favorite family car and there are other model years, such as 2015, that earned higher scores. That said, the 2021 Ford Escape did not perform well in the reliability survey.

The 2021 Ford Explorer is the other crossover SUV that made the list of least reliable 2021 Ford models. The 2021 Explorer earned a score of just 1 out of 100. This is pretty much as bad as it gets, unfortunately.

In spite of these absolutely dismal reliability verdicts from Consumer Reports, the 2021 Ford Escape and the 2021 Ford Explorer actually scored OK in the road test. Each one offers ample space for passengers and good handling. The 2021 Escape scored a 74 out of 100 and the Explorer earned 78 points.

So, while these are the least reliable 2021 Ford models, they do have redeeming qualities. In fact, it’s not hard to understand why someone would decide to buy one of these crossover SUVs. Still, there are other options out there with better reliability scores such as the 2021 Mazda CX-5 and the Kia Sportage.
