With a Shelby Super Snake touch, the Ford F-150 makes for one very rapid pickup truck. But it’s not the only high-speed heavyweight on the market. The Lamborghini Urus is one of the fastest SUVs on sale today. So, which is faster, the snake or the bull? That’s what YouTube team Throttle House tried to find out.

The 2020 Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport and Lamborghini Urus have got the power

The $86,085 2020 Shelby F-150 Super Snake comes standard with the base truck’s 395-hp 5.0-liter V8. But for $7300 more, Shelby bolts on a supercharger, a carbon-fiber air intake, a Borla side-exit exhaust, upgraded throttle bodies, and a performance heat exchanger, MotorTrend and TruckTrend report. With these mods, the F-150 Super Snake develops 770 hp and goes 0-60 mph in a claimed 3.45 seconds. Plus, like the base truck, it has four-wheel drive.

But the Shelby treatment extends beyond the engine bay. The F-150 Super Snake has upgraded front and rear suspension, 4-wheel slotted disc brakes, and front Brembo calipers, Autoblog reports. The truck also rides lower and gains an adjustable rear sway bar, a functional front splitter, a ram-air hood, new aluminum wheels, and high-performance tires.

In terms of raw horsepower, the 2020 Lamborghini Urus is at a slight disadvantage, even though it costs more than twice as much. The Italian SUV (well, crossover) has a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 641 hp and 627 lb-ft. However, it’s roughly equal to the F-150 Super Snake when it comes to speed. Thanks to standard AWD and an 8-speed automatic, the Urus goes 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, Car and Driver reports. And, like the Shelby truck, it has its own performance goodies.

The Lamborghini Urus comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes and an active rear differential, Automobile reports. It also has active anti-roll bars, electronically-adjustable air suspension, and rear-wheel steering, Roadshow reports. Wil all that plus its optional high-performance tires, the Urus became the fastest SUV to finish Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap.

Throttle House’s testing method

Perhaps thankfully for the Shelby F-150 Super Snake, Throttle House’s testing didn’t involve any corners. Instead, it and the Lamborghini Urus went head-to-head in a series of ¼-mile drag races. The first two were from a standing start, while the third was from a rolling start. And while the Urus has launch control, and the Shelby doesn’t, it would only come into play for the first race.

Still, on paper, it may seem like the F-150 Super Snake falls slightly behind the Urus. Not only does it have a slower 0-60 mph time, but it also has a slower 0-100 mph time. Shelby claims the truck manages it in 8.3 seconds, while Car and Driver reports the SUV can do it in 7.6 seconds.

However, Throttle House reports the Lamborghini is heavier than the F-150. So, maybe it stands a chance.

Which is faster: the 2020 Lamborghini Urus or the Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport?

Unfortunately, the on-paper stats translated to real life. The Lamborghini Urus beat the Shelby F-150 Super Snake in every single race.

Admittedly, without the benefit of launch control, the truck was right on the Urus’s heels. Which, given it costs less than half the price, is fairly admirable. But even in the rolling race, the Lamborghini managed to beat the Shelby by about a car-length.

So, it turns out the Lamborghini Urus can out-super the F-150 Super Snake in a straight line.
