Ah, the good ol’ drag race. Everyone knows this is THE ultimate way to suss out the better of two vehicles. Although some people use this consumer testing technique as a sport, the real ones know that it is simply a way to figure out which car is better. Full stop. Thankfully, the Lamborghini Urus and Audi RS6 Avant have been put to the track so that we can learn which is the best family hauler.

The Lamborghini Urus vs. the Audi RS6

Motor1 reports that the fine folks at Carwow took it upon themselves to help us all learn which of these family-friendly people movers is best for normal stuff like taking the kids to school, going to football games, and cracking off a quarter-mile sprint in less than 12 seconds.

As you may well know, these are not really your normal family rides. In fact, these are really closer to the Saturn V rocket with a cabin strapped to it than family haulers. But both have plenty of room for you and the kiddos. The Lambo is taller and provides for headroom, while the Audi nails the luxury of having the cargo space that only a station wagon can provide.

How fast is the Lamborghini Urus?

When Lamborghini decided to get into the SUV game, people were skeptical, to say the least. However, our skepticism was ill-placed. The Urus is Lamborghini through and through. It is stunning, cutting edge, expensive, and fast as hell. Even though it is a mite-bit heavier than your typical Lambo at 4,850 lbs, the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter Audi-made V8 makes an alarming 650 hp and 627 lb-ft torque.

How fast is the Audi RS6 Avant?

This station wagon is one of the coolest things marauding the roads currently. It weighs a bit less than the Italian SUV, clocking in a 4,575 lbs. In a drag race, weight is key. If you weigh less, you can get off the line faster and get the best table at Chuck E. Cheese before the neighbors. Although the Urus and the RS6 share the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, the Audi has been tuned for slightly less potent 591 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. See? This is much closer than you thought.

What is the fastest family car?

Many factors go into winning a drag race; weight, airflow, gearing, gear changes, grip, power, and, of course, the driver. Both the Lamborghini Urus and Audi RS6 Avant both have AWD drive, which is ideal for this sort of consumer test. This means that all that massive power and torque can be more effectively put to the road, making for a quicker start.

Wait, who won?

On paper, the two stately vehicles are a close match. It turns out that, in reality, there are still just as equally matched. The race really comes down to who gets the better launch. The Lamborghini has a little more trouble getting a strong launch off the line, but the Lambo’s power can have a big effect if it links up.

The truth is, like most things, these two are similar enough in performance that the choice is yours. The cool part is, these two vehicles are very different styles and aesthetics but are really well-matched in most specs. So the real question is, are you a Lamborghini or Audi person?
