It seemed like Kia and Hyundai drivers could finally take a moment to catch their breath. The Kia Boys trend was starting to slow down as police officers handed out free steering wheel locks.
But the internet has the Kia Challenge going strong as accounts on TikTok and other social media platforms dare teens to get involved. They are being dared to steal cars for quick joy rides before going home.
According to Auto Evolution, videos show step-by-step instructions on how to break into cars and SUVs in less than 25 seconds. The Kia and Hyundai models that are vulnerable are from 2011 to 2021.
The most recent uptick in Kia Boys activity comes out of Arundel County, Maryland. Police officers have reported 10 related incidents in just a few days.
But there is an official anti-theft update owners need to be aware of. The software update is free and can be installed at a local dealership.
