The Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid pickup truck was a hit before the first set of wheels ever hit the road. After its launch in 2021,  it was immediately clear that the hybrid F-150 filled a hole in the market. Although the F-150 PowerBoost isn’t an electric truck, it is an electrified truck with its new hybrid powertrain. But it’s not just an electrified pickup truck; it is one of the best electrified vehicles on the market today.

Are electrified vehicles getting more popular?

According to KBB’s Q4 Brand Watch survey, the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid is among the top 10 most considered electrified vehicles. The F-150 Hybrid is joined on the list by the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford Maverick, and Ford F-150 Lightning.

But, what is KBB’s Brand Watch report? It is a survey meant to gauge consumer shopping behavior to see how different brands and models stack up against each other. The survey found that consumer interest in electrified vehicles continues to grow with each passing quarter, once again setting several new records in Q4.

Ford Authority says that “last quarter, a total of 28 percent of new-vehicle shoppers considered an electrified model, up from 24 percent in Q3. Of that group, 20 percent considered a hybrid and 13 percent considered an EV, all of which are new highs.”

Is the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid worth the hype?

The hybrid F-150 hit the scene in Q4 of 2021, and it is already at number 10 on the list of most considered electrified vehicles. Because of Ford’s recent hybrid and EV push, it had more cars on this list than any other manufacturer.

The PowerBoost is a true sight to behold. Ford paired its 44-hp, 221-lb-ft electric motor with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 EcoBoost engine making 394-hp and 492-lb-ft. The result is a total output of 430 horses and 570 lb-ft.

Aside from the massive amount of horsepower, the Ford F-150 PowerBoost also makes a different kind of power. Ford has given buyers the option to select a built-in power generator in the bed that offers 4,000 watts of power supported by the gas-powered engine. This is without question one of the most useful features ever added to a pickup truck.

How much does the Ford F-150 PowerBoost cost?

This new hybrid F-150 is objectively practical and offers plenty of driving performance. However, all that utility and power don’t come cheaply. The 2022 Ford F-150 base model starts just under $30k. To get the PowerBoost engine upgrade, you must have the SuperCrew version in any trim. Prices for the hybrid pickup truck with the mobile generator range from $4,495 on XL and XLT, to $3,300 on Lariat, and $2,500 on King Ranch.

Once you weigh the cost against other competitors’ trucks, the PowerBoost, while not cheap, doesn’t seem like a bad deal. It is fair to see why this hybrid pickup truck might quickly jump up the list of the most considered electrified vehicles. It offers the power and utility of electric power while still offering the ease of being able to use a gas station.
