Jeff Bezos is one of the wealthiest celebrities on the planet, yet he drives a shockingly understated car. You might think that a billionaire with the resources to out-ship the postal service and send craft into space might drive something flashier. You’d be right, well, partially right. Here’s why Bezos drives a forgettable 1997 Honda Accord as well as a handful of world-class cars.

What car does Jeff Bezos have?

Amazon founder and current executive chairman Jeff Bezos drives a 1997 Honda Accord. While that isn’t his only car, it is one that should grab your attention. Among the flashiest of billionaires’ rides, Bezos chooses to drive a late 90s Honda sedan.

Don’t be mistaken; Jeff Bezos has other cars in his collection. However, the simple fact that a billionaire would drive a car like the Accord is a head-scratching idea.

Why does Jeff Bezos drive a 1997 Honda Accord?

Jeff Bezos says he drives a 1997 Honda Accord simply because “[its] a perfectly good car.” Before you judge, he isn’t wrong. The Honda Accord is synonymous with reliability, affordability, and perhaps what Bezos values, subtlety. Drive down the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in a million-dollar hypercar, people notice; drive down the PCH in an Accord, no one bats an eye.

Bezos told CBS’ Bob Simon in 1999 that the car represents financial priorities and frugality. Still, according to CNBC, the billionaire keeps homes, cars, a jet, and his space-dwelling venture, Blue Origin. However, much like Ludacris and his Acura Legend, it might be valuable for the most powerful of people to remember their roots.

What other cars does Jeff Bezos have?

In addition to his sensible Honda Accord, Jeff Bezos has a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, a special edition Bugatti Veyron, and a Lamborghini Veneno. The list doesn’t end there, though. The billionaire also has a Mercedes-Benz S450 sedan, a Range Rover, a Cadillac Escalade, and a Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio.

However, in a monstrous flex, Bezos also has a Lykan Hypersport. According to HotCars, Bezos’ Lykan Hypersport is one of only seven worldwide. It makes sense then, that the Amazon founder would cap the collection with something sensible and understated, like his 1997 Honda Accord.

Which other billionaires drive cheap cars?

Mark Zuckerberg, the famed founder of Facebook, drives an Acura TSX. However, Zuckerberg isn’t alone on the list of famous billionaires with reasonable cars. Paul Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft, has a Mazda B-Series, the new cost of which was a whopping $7,099. Also, Jim Walton, heir to the Walmart fortune, drives a sensible car. Walton’s chariot of choice is a Dodge Dakota, a small frame pickup truck.

These billionaires, like Jeff Bezos, all have personal fortunes of well over 20 billion dollars each, and they choose to drive cars that cost less than $30,000 new. Adjusting for depreciation, the vehicles listed above are nearly worthless. Still, there is something to be said for anonymity.
