The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer are two recent additions to the Jeep lineup. Well, they’re also throwbacks to a sort of ancient Jeep SUV, one of the first SUVs ever, that hasn’t seen the light of day for about thirty years. Now that Jeep is bringing the Wagoneer back – sans wood paneling, sadly – it’s making tweaks and adjustments to keep this Wagoneer relevant and competitive. And what better way to compete with other three-row SUVs than to offer a behemoth version, the kind you could take your kids to school in as easily as you could launch into the ocean and live on it for a year (note: the Jeep Wagoneer is not waterproof).

How big is the new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer?

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer measures 214.7-inches long, according to Car and Driver. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the same size, as the ‘Grand’ designates merely the luxury status of the Grand Wagoneer and not a size difference. They’re quite large SUVs, but they’re about to get a lot bigger.

Rumor has it that Jeep is adding on a longer wheelbase option to the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Spy photos show a camo-wrapped SUV taking a test drive next to a noticeably smaller Jeep Wagoneer. And what Jeep SUV is bigger than the Jeep Wagoneer other than – well, a longer Jeep Wagoneer?

Is the new Jeep Wagoneer a full-size SUV?

The new longer wheelbase Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer would certainly classify as a full-size SUV. Car and Driver compares the current Wagoneer length to the Cadillac Escalade. The Wagoneer is 3.7-inches longer overall and 2.1-inches longer in the wheelbase than the Escalade. Car and Driver assumes that the longbase Wagoneer would decimate the Escalade ESV in size, which is probably Jeep’s point.

The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer seats wouldn’t change. The biggest difference would be how much space there is in the third row and how much cargo space is in the trunk. While most people probably don’t need the extra space, large families may find it to be a crucial difference that puts the Jeep Wagoneer in the running.

How will this make the Wagoneer more competitive?

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer price starts at $69,440 for the two-wheel-drive SUV. If you upgrade to the four-wheel-drive Wagoneer, the price goes up to $72,440. 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer price starts at $86,995. That’s the bottom of the MSRP range, which goes up to $103,995.

Those prices are pretty comparable to other massive three-row SUVs available out there. Yet the full-size SUV field is somewhat limited, with only a handful of auto manufacturers putting out worthy large SUVs. The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have an advantage because they are simultaneously throwbacks and brand new. Now they’ll be able to take on the Chevy Tahoe and the Suburban – and Cadillac Escalade, as well as the Ford versions of those full-size SUVs.

There’s no definite date on when we’ll see the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer with the longer wheelbase, but it may be later this year. One thing’s for sure – it will definitely serve up some competition to full-size SUVs that have had little to bicker about for the last several years.
