Is Jeep bringing back the inline 6?

Jeep is releasing a new inline-6 engine for the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. As you might imagine, a whole lot of people have been pretty excited about the possibility of this happening for quite some time. The new inline-6 is headed for other vehicles after the Grand Wagoneer, so if you’re interested in it, you’ll have to pay attention to the expansion.

Jeep’s new engine is a gas-powered Hurricane twin-turbo inline-6. While the 3.0-liter engine isn’t a V8, it’s designed to match the output of a V8, meaning if you opt for the new engine upgrade, you won’t lose any power. In fact, this new engine is more powerful while at the same time environmentally friendly. It makes more than 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, according to Motor1. There’s a high-output variant as well which can make more than 500 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. So which vehicles will the new inline-6 go in after the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer?

Jeep’s new engine will go in the Jeep Wagoneer first

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is one of the first vehicles to get Jeep’s new engine. It’s set to arrive in vehicles at dealerships later on in 2022. After the Grand Wagoneer, there are possibilities for it to go into the Dodge Challenger or the Charger. This engine may even go into Ram trucks at some point in the future.

There’s also the potential for the new Hurricane engine to go into an electric vehicle. Motor1 writes, “architecture of the inline-six unit makes it suitable for future integration of electric support, which means a hybrid Hurricane engine could deliver even more power and less harmful emissions.” If the inline-6 can work in electric and hybrid vehicles, it could further the electric revolution that’s taking place across all car manufacturers right now.

How much is Jeep’s new engine?

Right now Jeep’s new engine upgrade will cost you an extra $2,000. This is on top of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s starting price of $87,995. It’s the first inline-6 engine from Jeep since 2006. Back then the Jeep’s 4.0-liter inline-6 engine was discontinued. This new motor is rumored to be called the Tornado.

The new Jeep engine will be officially unveiled at the 2022 New York International Auto Show April 15-24. If you’re excited about the possibility of a more powerful engine without the need for a V8 engine, you might want to pay attention to what Jeep is putting out over the next several months. With the new inline-6 engine making its debut by the end of 2022, you may have the possibility to get the inline-6 in any number of Jeep vehicles.
