Another tiny Jeep SUV could bite the dust. First, the Jeep Renegade was discontinued, now the Jeep Compass is shaking in its boots. Stellantis has paused work on the next-generation Compass at its Canadian plant.

The next-generation Jeep Compass is floundering

Uh oh, the next-generation Jeep Compass just got slammed with a significant setback. Stellantis has paused work on the electric Compass SUV at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario.

Production was scheduled to begin early next year. However, Stellantis is reevaluating its plans. According to Detroit News, all work for the Compass EV such as retooling the factory has been halted.

It’s unclear how long the pause will last and if any temporary layoffs will occur. The pause could be related to Trump Tariffs and efforts to stop EV policy that is causing uncertainty in the automotive industry.

In 2022, Stellantis announced investing $2.8 billion to overhaul its Brampton and Windsor assembly plants to expand a research center for its electrification push.

Stellantis spokesperson, Jodi Tinson, shared that Stellantis continues to reassess its product strategy in North America to ensure its officer customers a range of vehicles with flexible powertrain options to best meet their needs.

She also mentioned that the pause doesn’t change the previously announced investment plans for Brampton. The Jeep Compass is currently the most affordable Jeep model available since the Renegade was discontinued.

The next-generation Compass is scheduled to be built on the STLA medium platform that can accommodate electric and gas-powered powertrains. It will offer various multi-energy propulsion systems. However, the 2026 release date might get pushed back.
