The Chevy Suburban is one of the longest-running SUVs there is, and its popularity has been pretty consistent since its early days. Yet the 2022 Chevy Suburban’s current sales figures demonstrate that the Chevrolet Suburban isn’t as close to the top of the list as it once was. In fact, sales of the 2022 Chevy Suburban are so far below those of 2021 that one can’t help but wonder – why isn’t anyone buying the new Suburban?

The 2022 Chevy Suburban sales are way down

The 2022 Chevy Suburban’s sales figures are way down from where they were in 2021. At the end of the first quarter of 2021, 48,086 Chevy Suburbans had been sold. By the end of the first quarter in 2022, 12,425 Suburbans had been sold. That’s 35,661 fewer Suburbans than at the same time last year. Clearly, that’s a pretty significant difference, and one that is worth looking into.

Another point to consider with the 2022 Chevy Suburban’s sales figures is that there is an upward trend in the first quarter. January and February 2022 sales figures are the same at 3,976. March is a little bit higher, at 4,473 Suburbans sold.

Supply chain disruptions continue to impact sales

If there is one thing that consistently impacts all motor vehicle sales right now, it’s the pandemic. There are many factors at play that are making it harder to both buy and sell vehicles, and ongoing supply chain problems are one of them. Car manufacturers are experiencing a shortage of parts that is making it very difficult to put out the same number of vehicles as usual. In addition to that, there are microchip shortages that have resulted in some car makers – like Chevy – to temporarily pause adding some coveted features.

Yet all is not lost. The chip shortage is finally lessening after nearly two years of problems. That means that car manufacturers are increasingly able to produce their normal number of vehicles – with all of the necessary parts.

The Jeep Wagoneer is taking a portion of sales

Another factor that may be impacting the 2022 Chevy Suburban sales is the brand new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and its luxury counterpart, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. These two additions to the large SUV segment present an interesting problem for the Suburban as well as other similarly sized SUVs.

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer are updated versions of an old-time favorite. While its sales aren’t exactly killing those of the 2022 Chevy Suburban, they are respectable. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer sold 7,056 units in the first quarter of 2022.

The 2022 Chevy Suburban is a mainstay in the full-size SUV segment, and it’s unlikely that this dip in sales is representative of a long-lasting problem. Still, we’ll have to pay attention to how things play out for the Suburban in the future. If supply chain problems continue to ease up and the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer sales steady, we’ll get a better picture of just how much those two factors impact the 2022 Chevy Suburban sales.
