If you have a 2019 Hyundai Tucson or you’re considering the purchase of a used one, there’s plenty to learn about this popular crossover SUV. Most of it good, of course––there’s a reason the Tucson is such a popular choice. However, some owners have experienced some serious rattling noises from their 2019 Hyundai Tucson engine.

Is the Hyundai Tucson a good crossover SUV?

According to U.S. News and World Report, the 2019 Hyundai Tucson “is a great compact SUV.” The average list price for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson crossover is $18,875. For the price, the 2019 Tucson brings a lot to the table. It boasts a nice cabin with solid insulation in terms of blocking out road noise.

Even for long stretches behind the wheel, the seats are comfortable and supportive. This popular compact SUV also has a user-friendly infotainment system. In 2019, Hyundai made some changes too. The interior styling saw upgrades. Plus, several new features became standard. In addition, the previous models’ 1.6-liter turbo engine found itself replaced by a more compelling 2.4-liter engine option.

The fuel economy isn’t great compared with its top competitors. Also, there are hard plastics that take away some from the feel of the interior. But overall, this is a vehicle that satisfies a large consumer base whether bought new or used.

Is your Tucson engine making rattling noises?

In one Reddit thread, an owner of a brand new 2019 Hyundai Tucson Sport posts about the engine making rattling noises. The comments don’t exactly seem super reliable. They range from suggesting that the owner is having problems with mice or rats compromising engine components to simply saying that the sounds are normal for the turbocharged engine in a Tucson Sport. We can glean from the thread that at least a few people have encountered this Hyundai Tuscon problem.

There’s also a thread dedicated to this issue on Hyundai-Forums. Owners report a rattling noise as if two pieces of metal are clanging together. This issue, however, isn’t for the 2019 Hyundai Tucson Sport. Rather, the owner bought a 2019 Hyundai Tucson SEL. Still, the same issue with a rattling noise in the engine is the problem.

Many commenters on the thread point out that if the owner is having issues, they should probably take it to the dealer and have it looked at. This is especially a no-brainer if the vehicle is still under warranty. But not everyone thinks the problem is that simple.

Additionally, more owners come out of the woodwork with the same problem. They even agree in their comments on the thread that they will notify each other of any developments in terms of finding out why the 2019 Hyundai Tucson engine makes that noise. While we aren’t sure what the problem stems from, we do know that there have been extensive recalls due to issues with the Hyundai engines. Perhaps the engine noise is related to the problems for which the vehicles have been recalled.
