.com found that the front-passenger didn’t have much legroom after installing an infant seat. The team experienced a similar problem when installing a rear-facing seat. 

What Consumer Reports has to say 

Consumer Reports is one of the many critics that have raved about the CX-5. This is mostly because of the SUV’s performance and active safety features. Still, CR echoes that installing rear-facing seats in the CX-5 can be cumbersome. 

“Rear-facing seats may be challenging to install in the center seat because the car’s anchor is wider than the buckle anchor spacing, making it difficult to remove slack from the belt. Belts forward of the bight (where the horizontal and vertical seat surfaces meet) in the outboard position make installing infant seats a challenge. The center belt is integrated with the seat, a plus for not having to attach the shoulder part from the ceiling.“

CR went on to say that it would be challenging to install three child seats in the CX-5’s back row. You may want to consider the CR-V or the Subaru Forester for a compact SUV with slightly better reviews in this department. However, many current CX-5 owners say that their SUV is accommodating enough for a growing family. This aspect of the car is something you will have to determine personally. 

Additional things to consider 

Another drawback to consider is that the CX-5 is below the class average regarding cargo space. Aside from this other qualm, the CX-5 offers many things to enjoy. Specifically, the 2021 CX-5 is worth the upgrade because of the updated safety features available.

Mazda upgraded the CX-5’s standard infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
