The new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 takes the formula of the C8-generation Corvette to the next level. However, the Kentucky supercar is not quite hybridization or all-wheel drive (AWD) like other European rivals. Instead, the Corvette Z06 improves on the C8 Stingray by adding an exceptional engine and track-ready components. Still, is the Z06 with a Z07 package faster than world-class supercars like the McLaren 765LT or Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica?

What is special about the Corvette Z06?

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 takes the mid-engine C8 platform to new heights. First and most musically, the Z06 packs a flat-plane crank 5.5L V8. While that doesn’t sound like much compared to the lower-tier Corvette’s 6.2L of displacement, the Z06’s squatter, higher-revving mill is a hellacious heart. The 5.5L cranks out 670 horsepower at a stratospheric 8,400 rpm and redlines at 8,600. The result is what MotorTrend identifies as “the world’s largest and most powerful V8 of this configuration.”

Moreover, the Z07 package-equipped Z06 (I know it’s confusing) wields a cacophony of performance-focused components in the form of wheels, lightweight aero, upgraded brakes, and suspension enhancements. Specifically, the Z07-equipped Z06 adds Magnetic Ride suspension, different springs, carbon-fiber wheels, and copious aero abound.

Which is faster, a Corvette or a McLaren?

MotorTrend comparison tested the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 against the 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider and the 2023 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica. However, while MotorTrend gave the ultimate win to the 765LT, the Corvette is quicker. MotorTrend says the Z07-equipped Z06 hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, even though Chevrolet claims the track-ready supercar will do it in 2.6. That 2.8-second sprint is 0.1 seconds faster than the McLaren 765LT Spider.

The McLaren 765LT, like the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica, is one of the epically expensive rivals for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Z07.

However, the McLaren bested the Corvette in lateral acceleration and the standing quarter mile. The Spider covered the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds and 1.17 g in testing. As a result, the Z06 fell behind the 765LT Spider by 0.5 seconds and 0.01 g, respectively.

Is a Corvette as fast as a Lamborghini?

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package was just as fast as the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica to 60 mph. Both cars put down a blistering 2.8 seconds in MotorTrend’s testing. However, the Lamborghini bests the super-Vette in the quarter mile by 0.2 seconds. Still, the Z07 Z06 fought back against Lamborghini in a figure eight handling test; the Z06 averaged 0.05 g and 0.7 seconds better than the Tecnica.

Is the 2023 Corvette Z06 a supercar?

The debate over the Chevrolet Corvette’s place in the supercar market is ongoing. However, if it runs like a supercar, makes power like a supercar, handles like a supercar, and sounds like one, too, it’s a supercar. Moreover, the Corvette continues to perform its party trick compared to its performance rivals; the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is simply one of the most affordable supercars in the world. For instance, Car and Driver says the Z06 starts at around $109,295 before adding optional extras like the Z07 package.

Compared to the Z06, the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica starts at $239,000. The Bowling Green supercar and its tenor costs less than half as much as the raging bull. Of course, the C8-generation Corvette is notorious for dealer markup and price gouging, meaning fans are unlikely to get their hands on a C8 Z06 for anywhere near MSRP.
