The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 off-roading trim is out and about getting work done. It could take the title of best work truck. So far, the new GMC Canyon impresses critics as an underdog option with well-rounded features and plenty of power.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 a good truck?

Yes, the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is a great truck. It’s just not as popular as other options like the Chevy Colorado or Honda Ridgeline that are a bit flashier. But for that reason, you can save some money.

The MSRP for the 2021 GMC Canyon begins at around $26,400. The Honda Ridgeline starts around $33,900, and the Colorado starts a bit cheaper, around $25,400. The Canyon AT4 off-roading trim raises the price to $38,200. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 price begins around $41,600, making the AT4 cheaper.

However, the AT4 isn’t as well equipped for off-roading as the ZR2. But the AT4 is more than capable of tackling trails and clearing obstacles. It’s perfect for weekend warriors. According to AutoBlog, the GMC Canyon AT4 also has a more comfortable ride than the Ford Ranger FX4 and Toyota Tacoma.

The GMC Canyon AT4 has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Plus, the 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine pumps out 186 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

With a maxim towing capacity of 7,700 lb, the Canyon can get the job done easily. It also has a maximum payload capacity of 1,775 lb. But it takes 9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, so that’s a bit sluggish.

The AT4 model comes with an off-road-tuned suspension, hill descent control, 31-inch Goodyear DuraTrac tires, a locking rear differential, and a transfer case skid plate. It also has dark chrome accents and red tow hooks for a confident look.

Thanks to the factory-installed suspension lift, the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 has nearly a 30-degree approach angle. While it can handle bumps and obstacles with ease. The AT4 also provides a smooth and refined ride around town.

Only the Honda Ridgeline beats its ride quality, but that’s because it has a unibody construction. The Honda Ridgeline only has all-wheel drive and handles more like a car than a truck, but the AT4 is much more capable.

This truck has the most cargo-bed volume and plenty of storage bins inside the cab. The center console bin is very deep, and the doors have massive storage pockets. Upgrade to the 8-inch infotainment center for a system that’s easy and quick to use.

However, the GMC Canyon AT4 is behind the curve in terms of standard safety features. You can spring for available forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and more, but rivals offer more features. It’s a well-rounded truck that’s strong, comfortable, and perfectly capable.
