The Chevy Camaro is a desirable muscle car that basically makes any trip feel more like an adventure. Its general popularity and exceptional performance entice new drivers each year. The 2018 model, in particular, was celebrated for being an affordable sports car, but reviews from critics are mixed. Here we will help determine if the 2018 Camaro is a good used-car option for you.

Pros of the 2018 Chevy Camaro

Perhaps above all, the 2018 Camaro is a good option because you get the power you crave, along with desirable high-tech features at a discounted price. This model is also appealing because of its availability as either a two-door coupe or a convertible.

There are three engine varieties for the 2018 Camaro: the four-cylinder, V6, and V8. Horsepower ranges from 275 to 650 hp. Each engine option features athletic capability and smooth ride quality. The fuel economy on this model is slightly below average though.

Generally speaking, the Camaro is comfortable to ride in. But with cars like these, the front-seat is the better place to be since the rear seats tend to feel cramped. The Camaro’s interior quality is on the higher end, which makes it feel more like an upscale European model. You won’t hear much outside noise from the cabin, but the roaring engine will command some attention.

One of the best things that Chevy does on the inside of its cars is infotainment. Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system is easy to use and convenient. The base model comes with a 7-inch screen and the higher trims come with an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are standard, along with the wifi hotspot.

The 2018 Camaro also does pretty well when it comes to safety. It received overall high crash test scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To help avoid crashes, this model has blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross-traffic alert offered as its advanced safety features. These features come standard on the higher trims and are add-ons on the lower trim levels.

Other helpful driver-assist tools include the rearview camera, parking sensors, and the Teen Driver feature.

Potential trouble spots

One of the drawbacks of the Camaro is its poor driver’s visibility so it’s a bummer that blind-spot monitoring isn’t a standard feature on each of the trim levels. The cargo space is also limited which can make everyday shopping trips annoying.

Other drivers have mentioned problems with the power equipment which includes cruise control and keyless start features.

Predicted reliability is pretty low based on Consumer Reports surveys because of issues with the paint trim over time, as well as the body hardware. However, this isn’t the case for everyone. Each driver’s experience is truly different and not everyone experiences the same issues.

Other options to consider

So, the 2018 is an overall solid option for an affordable sports car that provides a great driving experience. This model is safe and responsive which helps it earn higher marks. But, if you can compromise on the horsepower, the 2016 model is also worth looking into.
